Just cleared 20K hands at $10NL FR. Ran +4.91BB/100. Assuming BR is fine (which it is...), safe to think about moving to $25NL? If I do, should I run a few K hands at half buy-in until I get a feel for it? Will I notice a significant difference? Or should I just stay put for a while longer....? :shock:
You're rolled. Go for it.
the players are pretty much the same, so if you feel comfortable at 10NL go for 25NL if you have at least 20 buy ins.

heres what you will notice, imo.
- a good many players at 25NL have learned a semi-decent pre-flop game. they are beginning to understand that their kicker is important, or that if they called with a K6s and flopped 2 pair, your K is meat, and they may slowplay it against your AK. that shouldnt worry you long term, but it will piss you off short term. also,
- a little 3 betting pre flop. its almost non-existent at 10NL.
- a little floating. players will start calling your bets on the flop. you may need to 2 barrel on occasion to keep them honest.
- c/ring you when they anticipate a cbet coming.
- YOUR position becomes much more important in terms of YOUR aggression and how much respect it will get.
those are a few of the fundamentals. dont get me wrong, its not going to happen all the time. its still pretty rare, but you will notice it, especially if you are still cbetting oop into pots that are not HU. most of the time, however, when you are bet into, or raised, it is a real hand. it may have been crap pre-flop, but it probably connected with the flop in some way.
the players still suck...just watch the crap they show down. and you can still beat them fairly easily.
dont buy in shorter than 80 bb's, if you are testing the level, imo. if you multi-table, open one or two 25NL tables, and open the rest at 10NL. gradually, as you get more comfortable, start weighing more of your tables towards 25NL.
and dont hesitate to drop back down, if it becomes necessary, once you go below 30 BI's for the 10's. the only shame in bankroll management is going busto.
oh, and just like 10NL, when someone suddenly "wakes up" on the river with a bet into an orphan pot or certainly a raise of your value bet...it means they have something strong. dont make a habit of calling these. watch the odds you are getting to call, and if its too good to pass up, go ahead, but dont call them thinking, "these jerkwads up here are always trying to bluff me off the river." THEY ARENT!!
