How do you beat this player?

plays 20/16

raises cbet flops with all his nut hands, also draws and top pair.

Calls threebets tightly, mostly with hands like JJ+ and sometimes AK/AQ. In position you may see a sc or not so good hand or two but they will never bluff anything worse than an open end or a FD.

Doesn't get tricky.

Calls flop cbets with any pair unless the board is horrendous. Calls occasional two barrels, and will occasionally make a pray call on a three barrel depending on board texture.

Not super thinking, understands in given situations that someone can have air/ missed draw but doesn't really understand it. Doesn't put people on ranges but rather relies on experience for his hand reading (or in other words doesn't think of all possible hands and rather gets stuck on a few, just has vague notions.... if this doesn't make sense tell me).

Won't bluff air at all.

Goes to SD about 24% of the time which IMO is on the tight side but pretty solid.



At first glance this player seems to have not very many holes in his game, but this can't be true can it? Do we exploit his game by him simply being too predictable? And if that's the case can we not demolish this player even though we know his game so well?

Ahhh I think you described me here a bit so telling you how to beat my game would be -ev.

The only nugget of advice, and you have mentioned it in your post, is to 3-bet light in position. But watch out if you are at my table oop ;-)

That's close to my game or how I try to play my game and I get smoked alot by LAGGS. My hand reading sucks and I pick bad spots. I think my weakness is really what you said, predictable. That and I go to showdown a little more often than what you said. Maybe that's what I need to fix next.

This sounds like you are describing Fgators...Anyway you beat this player by making them play back at you. The more he gets irritated by you pounding him with double and triple barrels, the more he will want to play back. The more he plays back the more you win when you hit.

How often does he raise when donked into?
Also, I don't think he's playing back enough against c-bets.

BTW: It's players like this and the response to them that has caused me to re-think some core parts of my game. If the 8/16 and higher at HG is good, I'll mostly be playing that for a couple weeks.

Just clarifying, by raise a lot when he's on the BU you mean three betting and raising a lot of flops right?

I'm not asked directly here but I would say yes. I have opened my 3-betting range OOP considerably against these type of players. They like to raise all sort of stuff on the button but they are getting scared calling 3-bets and big c/bets. Against players with a high attempt to steal blinds (most of these players are) this strategy works quite well.

In general your question is too broad ISF. Every player has a weakness find it. Apply pressure where they don't like it.

Huh? I gave a very specific player, I don't get how this is too broad.

I am good at figuring out how to beat very certain level players, killing decent players is what I'd like to get better at.

There is no real specific, hey do this against this type. You were pretty detailed on your description, but there is still a lot you left out. Flop, turn and river tendencies are huge. How do they play draws on the turn when they miss? Are they defending our 3bets?

I actually tried that, mostly on rivers where I knew they had tpwk or less, I'd bet 2 times the pot sometimes.
Not exactly sure if it was good or bad but the results were definetely good I had like a 15 to 1 fold rate.

that's cool. i've got to mess around with over bets more...

another thing mentioned already is having the image that you hate to fold. it makes that type play more weak-tight. but it's a lot harder to play a loose/floating style, at least for me.

how do you beat a predictable solid player?

you play the adjustment game with them....only you're always one step ahead of them.

1) steal a lot of small pots from them.
2) when they adjust, tighten up and wait for a big hand
3) when they readjust, you've already started 3betting light again.
