outdated stickies
I have realized that we do spend a lot of time going over the same threads everytime a new member asks the same questions that have been answered twenty times before. It is the nature of the beast. I think that we can upgrade the way the beginner forum works by making some adjustments to the outdated stickys. here is my Idea. We will take BR management as the first subject. Why don't we start a thread named "General consensus on BR management" or something of that sort. With a simple question, saying something like "What's your theory on BR management for beginners", And when any one new comes along and asks the BR question, we have an updated sticky on the subject. What this will do is give people a chance to voice there opinions on the subject and give a wider range of views. I think having a sticky posted by one person, no matter how good,( i.e. AoK's 19 hands, Rentons 169 starting hands) is very one sided and there are always arguments for different thoughts and strategy's. Having threads on this and other subjects would allow for differing opinions, and maybe avoid the Nooby thrashing that sometimes goes on with responses to and from the so called respected members.
I think having the opinions and disagreements in one thread would allow for much more info to be in a sticky, and also give more insite into the thinking behind the ideas that some have without things getting out of hand. This would also allow for updates and changes to happen at an ongoing bases as thoughts and Ideas change.
Other ideas for topics.

So you're saying to start a new thread and let people post whatever they want on a certain topic? And then link to that thread?

I'm saying some of the sticky's are very outdated and from 2004/5. Things have changed, poker has changed. I think in hte beginner forum we could have you lead a new discussion on some important topics for beginners that have out of date sticky's and have them updated. I direct you to the beginner faq sticky as an example. http://www.flopturnriver.com/phpBB2/...poker-2614.htm This thing is so out of date, Im sure you could find better links and discussions on the same topics from this month alone. The Bankroll management thread by Rilla was good, but the questions keep coming up revolving around Multitaleing, S&G's, Tourneys and live poker. There are way more questions than this "sticky" can answer.
I will give you this though, the Digest is neat, clean and full of great threads as well. I think it is pretty good. I mainly noticed the faq's and thread by Humphrind and thought we could do more. I just think linking BR questions to the old thread is useless.
Just a thought.

why not just stickify the next good discussion that comes up?

Thanks TJ, you're totally right, especially about those particular threads. I'll definitely see what I can do sometime in the near future because we for sure get some great discussions that should be stickied to replace old sticky topics. I do make note of certain threads that I think are good and I link to them in the mods forum for my future reference. I've added a few things here and there and I have tried to keep the digest clean and as organized as possible.
But yeah like I said, the outdated stuff should be chucked. I guess back when I was reorganizing everything, I didn't want to touch the stuff that old mods here had in place because I thought it was there for a reason. But that's just stupid, seeing as things do change all the time.
Just gotta stop working a million hours a day ... so I can spend more time on FTR, obv.
