I read the article on the 19 hands strategy and Im wondering what PT says as far as VPIP% for those hands.
Im guessing if your running about average, 13% VP$IP. PFR Im thinking should be around 4%.
Anyone here using that strategy care to share some numbers? Looks like a good strategy to keep a new player out of trouble.
Yeah, I think it ends up in the mid teens. There's a purely mathematical answer, after the sample size has smoothed things out...
what limits are you playing? that IS great advice...for the beginner. but you will quickly see, imo, that you are folding the table when you raise/bet, and when you check, you get bet into almost ALL the time.
why is that? BECAUSE YOU ARE A ROCK!! if you only raise 4%, i put you on AQ+, KQ+, and JJ+...and thats prolly too many hands to be 4%! either way, i am only calling with KK and AA when you raise. good luck getting action.
and if you are only 13%vpip, i am NEVER playing with you, and will leave a table i see you at, unless there are others MUCH looser than you there. OR, i will just sit to your right and steal your blinds EVERY TIME!! good luck getting action.
although, those hands are the "best" starting hands, and the most profitable, you need to open up a bit to make money consistently, imo.
you cannot be afraid to lose a little for the sake of "buying future action" for your good stuff. thats poker. the trick is to not lose too much when you are playing outside that range.

welcome aboard! i did not mean to be too harsh in my response. i dont know your level of experience, but do to the number of posts here on FTR, i will "assume" that you are relatively new to poker.
therefore, the reason for my response was that too many people playing online, at any level, have "tools" to watch your play. things like PokerTracker, etc. they dont need to watch you play to "read your statistics" and see that you are either tight or loose...passive or aggressive. and they act accordingly.
keep posting any thought you have, or any hand you play, or anything at all. we truly are HERE TO HELP. there are still too many fish for us, here, to get competitive with each other. you're here, and by that, i mean you're in the club, until you prove otherwise ;). trust the advice of everyone, and apply it. you will get better, if you are not a pro already.
and dont be discouraged by arsehole remarks like mine could have been taken. it was out of constructive criticism.

The 19 hands comprise 13.1% of all the possible starting hands. Your VPIP is going to be lower since you're going to be folding them PF sometimes.
I'm suprised more people don't use PokerStove. It's an invaluable tool and it's free.

I don't have pokerstove anymore and I thought it was no longer available. I just ran the math and came up with roughly 13%.

Id be happy to hang out here and discuss poker with this forum. Im not new to the game but I have been trying to find out which form of holdem I enjoy the most.
I started out playing limit and after 50k hands thats not really for me. I tried LO8 and thats fun but not for me either. I do enjoy SNG's but I only one table so at the lowest of games it takes a while to grind out some profits.
I have PT and PAHUD. I have SNGPT and PT-omaha. I have been playing for almost 4 years. I found NL ring and I have a blast playing. It took awhile but I finally found my game.
As far as what Chopper describes, not getting action. That is what my problem was. I was running at about 9/2. LOL its ok, please laugh at those numbers. I did a google search and found an article by a guy named Renton. :D
After reading Renton's articles, my game has opened up a bit and Im currently running at 15/7. Im only playing 10NL and sometimes the 5NL game on stars. I hope to be at 25NL by summer time.
Im looking forward to discussing NL here at this forum.

you will find Renton here, but more often in the 6max stuff.
and as far as different games, i would dabble again at some limit stuff, but at 6max limit. you can really find some fish there. and if you have some experience, you should beat the crap out of the lower limits.
