Why do most players reccommend tight aggressive?
It is possible to MAKE more money playing LAG than TAG
It is possible to LOSE more money playing LAG than TAG
A TAG style can be profitable at all levels and requires less post-flop skill than a LAG style. A good player is capable of playing both styles and will adjust depending on opponents and table texture.
Are there any posts available that describe how to play an effective loose aggressive game?
Everyone talks about post-flop skills being so important if you play in a lot of hands, and about them being so important as you move up in stakes higher than $2/$4.
Well...what are the characteristics of "good post flop skills"?
Getting away from bigger hands when you are behind. Staying in with worse hands when you are ahead. Telling the difference and keeping the pot the right size for your hand/situation.Quote:

I know that I am getting much better at folding good hands when I think I am behind...but definitely need to work on calling down with marginal hands that are ahead.
I am way too weak tight...especially when I move up limits.
If I ever want to open up my game, I am going to have to become a much better post-flop player.
However, I cannot wrap my head around some of these Lagg's that call my cbets with bottom pair no kicker.
I cannot tell the difference between a good Lagg and a bad Lagg; I just consider all of them to be donkeys.
But, a lot of these "donkeys" are raping the crap outa me.
lagg = potentially bigger swings, higher risk, need to really know the player and the 'solid" tagg game to succeed consistently
tagg = slower but more consistent growth, therefore better for building a roll, therefore better for people starting out.
Playing LAG is 10x harder than playing TAG. You'll enter pots with (on average) crappier hands, so you'll end up with nothing more often. Also, the table will respond to your continued aggression, so you really need to be able to feel the psychological effect.. ie, when people start playing back, are they getting annoyed and trying to rebluff you or do they simply have a strong hand.. or at other times they might start slowplaying more because they want to trap you with your constant betting/raising.
On the flip side, LAG is potentially a lot more profitable because it throws other people off their game, even tilts them, and you can get tons more value from your strong hands.
TAG is easier, more mathematical and the table won't get erratic either. It's also less risky and less swingy.
making your opponents make difficult decisions.Quote:

This situation arises most often in a blind battle.
Usually I tend to think villain is playing back at me, and I lose a stack with my TPGK.
Huge problem of mine!
Good LAGs don't really call that much. If they do it's usually in position. LAGs tend to raise a lot of hands. They don't get involved that often oop. They prey on weakness like raising from the BU after one or two limpers with a wide range of hands. They know that they can out-play their opponents post flop because they have position and they have taken the lead in the hand by raising.
TAGs on the other hand, tend to have a tighter range and when they raise, they have a pretty decent hand. They are conscious of position, but they rely more on their starting hands.
Verry well said sprayed,
The foundation of a good LAG play is position followed by a good post flop play and a good sense of table reading. It can be rediculously profitable at times but a good player will be able to switch gears.
The best players in the world are laggy NLHE MTTers.

Poker is very automatic and very simple and very standard. There is only one way to make the most money, AND IT IS EITHER lag OR tag. I have been experimenting with both and so far my results are inconclusive. When I discover the true way to play poker, I will become all powerful.
Am I right in assuming that winning Maniacs are either on a great upswing or simply laggs in disguise?
