Self-Evaluation?

How do people actually self-evaluate?

Ok, first of all, I DON'T play online poker. Most of the time, I get 6-10 friends and play low stakes poker at home (whether it be mine or theirs) and I do that at a weekly basis. I find it hard to remember specific hand details. Also, how do I know that I'm making the right decisions in poker and furthermore, how do I know if I am improving my game or not?

on some days, I continuosly win pots and hit hands while on other days I feel like I'm losing every single pot. This is getting frustrating in that I have no idea whether or not I'm progressing in my game. (I have been playing for 3 years if you're interested). Any tips on how to self-evaluate? What sort of notes should I make about my game or my friend's games and how do I go about making those notes?

I tend to judge my play on how my bankroll is doing. Session to session, you've got to consider that you are catching/not catching cards.

If I were you, I'd keep a poker journal, write down my win/loss, and any other notes on key plays/etc. Use the info to chart your progress.

If you're only playing once a week you're dealing with a very small sample size. 100 SnGs is a minuscule sample. If you've played every week for 3 years you have a 150 game sample.

Are your opponents any good? Also, if you can't remember specific details it's going to be very hard to work on your game. Maybe focus on this first.

As for evaluating yourself I would say look at big pots you win/loose. If you typically have the best hand then you're probably doing good.

If you never win a pot because no one ever folds, then you are making mistakes by bluffing people who don't fold. All you really need for a typical home game is identifying who will call too much and who will fold too much. Bet more often, and with multiple barrels at the people who fold, only bet at the callers with a made hand.
