After playing in live games, I have no more patience to play online.
Has this happened to anyone else? Seriously, I loose all my chips in a heart beat.
Granted, I play in "play money " games online - which is hardly real poker.

lol
Do you play "play money" live? It's very easy to push 2k reloadable pretend chips into the pot every hand. That would get old quickly.
Sorry, this is a dumb thread. Play for real money online and as if by magic, the excitement will reappear.
(I don't understand why anyone apart from an absolute beginner plays for play money online. Anyone want to explain it to me?)
Come on, wouldn't you be just as bored if you played in live games where you couldn't win or lose anything?
Just make a small deposit online and see if you change your mind.
Play money lol
WTF!!!Is this for real? Are you for real? FUCK!!!Quote:

Jesus christ guys, chill the fuck out. A lot of you seem to be having a huge recent trend of just absolutely berating the OP, trainer and biondino especially. This isnt 2p2, if all you are going to do is call the guy an idiot, just don't post.
Anyways, despite all the ridiculous comments, there was some decent advice. Deposit real money and give it a shot, but follow the BR management guides posted here if you actually want to build a roll and not just gamble. Im surprised you say live is more exciting than online when you get so few hands in live, but regardless I guess its a preference thing. If playing 1 table of real money doesnt do it for you, add another and see how that is. If you find you just dont like online play, then stick to live, no problem with that really.
Wow- sorry to take the honor of the year's worst post.
Andy-akb, thanks for the advice.
I was starting to think '2p2' reading through the responses and then got to yours. Yes, definitely don't wanting this forum turning into that kind of stuck up, berating, condescending mentality.Quote:

andy-akb's advice is good. I'll add to that: Only sit at play money tables if you don't know how the game works. I don't know, you've never played online, you just moved to a new site, you're playing Omaha for the first time, whatever. And then stop sitting at play money tables as soon as you can. Deposit some real money you're willing to lose and play micro-limits. People at the play money tables generally don't care if they win or lose, so you won't learn playing there and will probably develop bad habits.
Best of luck and keep reading/posting here.
play money SnGs are ok. Every cash table I have sat at is complete garbage. The SnGs have higher and higher buy-ins so as you move up play becomes somewhat better. You'll know you're there when you can't fold into the money. I would recommend 10 Buy-ins for bankroll management if you choose this option.
LOL @ play money BR management
You're not being helpful zook :evil:Quote:

Commence being jealous.
I wonder if there was enough interest if it would be worthwhile to have a "play money" forum here. I'm thinking probably not but at least you wouldn't get responses of "what are you CRAZY?"
LOL @ play money forum
If you're gonna do it, do it right. Limit play money forum, High-stakes limit play money, NL play money, SNG play money, MTT play money, High-stakes NL play money. And while we're at it, why the heck don't we have a crazy pineapple forum?
So you're into it too? Let's get this going.Quote:

strategy discussions of play money ARE crazy.
If we gain 100 play money players and lose one solid player who sees the play money forum, LOLs, and goes back to 2p2, it isn't worth it.
You will get replies posting hands that are from micro limits. If you can't deposit money, you aren't playing poker.
I think I'm all out of sarcastic comebacks here folks
A guy I used to work with played NL Omaha with friends at least once a week (he and his roommate payed the rent from it), I told him about crazy pineapple. Now they play NL crazy pineapple, which I am sure is a much better game than limit.
Oh come on, this is a dumb thread. I also gave a sensible answer and asked a non-sarcastic question of my own, which no-one has deigned to answer.
Why do people play any game? Baseball, golf, bowling, scrabble, monopoly, pool, anything, why do they play? Some people play for money, some people dont, simply because you fall into the first category does not mean those in the second category are mindless.Quote:

To assume our current position is the pinnacle of achievement and what everybody should strive toward and all decisions should be based on is simply ridiculous.
If he wants to mess around with play money, let him. If you think thats dumb, then so be it but that doesnt belong in this thread. Yea, you gave some vague advice that was [thinly] veiled in sarcasm, but there is no point in taking such a holier than thou position.
In all honesty, your post wasnt a big deal, Trainer's was more out of line, but the idea is the same, both posts [in the context of a seemingly recent trend of negative posts in strategy forums] just arent needed, especially in a _BEGINNER'S_ forum.
it wasn't posted in the beginners forum, it was moved here.
we don't have board game forums either, I don't see your point.
My bad, somebody must have also deleted the Parchezee forum without me seeing.Quote:

I'm being serious. Lots of people play lots of games. This is a poker forum. We discuss games where people wager money. I think it's important we maintain that distinction. I'm not sure why you're angry at me.
EDIT - just to be clear, I've honestly read your post like 5 times, and I don't get it. And FWIW I certainly agree Trainer doesn't need to be swearing at people.
Im not angry at anybody specifically, and I apologize if I came off that way.Quote:

My comparison was basically that we play a game where we like to wager money and so do most people, but simply because we wager money doesnt mean everybody does and the money aspect of it doesnt really change anything. If I want to get good at scrabble, I could go to a professional scrabble forum. To the people there it may not really make much sense what Im doing, and probably be looked down on, but their advice would still be valid if they got past that and its the same situation here [more people play scrabble for fun than for money while its the opposite for poker, but the principles are the same]. Some people play the game simply for fun against their friends or whoever, we are still talking about the same game though.
[Sorry if that was a little convuluted, I tried to explain my comment about why some people dont play for real money but mainly addressed what you said]
well, this was 5 minutes worth of my life i will never get back!! cant believe i read the first 10 posts.Quote:

oh, and ANDY, that is simply not right. yes, people play poker for free all the time (and they have that right...except here in the US... ), and the RULES of the games stay the same, but the FUNDAMENTALS do not!! nobody takes the game seriously when the bets are in oreos and m&m's. people chase rediculous odds, and push all-in pf with worse trash than at a $10 NL game. you simply cannot give the same advice to a free game that you would a real money game, it wont transfer between the games. you can barely give the same advice to a $25 game as you can to a $200 game, as it does not transfer either. that is why we have separate forums for separate stakes...good luck in starting the FREE MONEY FORUM.
Well at least I got a new signature out of this thread.
I think a "free money" forum would get a lot of viewsQuote:

There is no specific advice for a given situation in poker based solely on your cards which you seem to be implying. When giving advice to a 25nl player you give it based on not only that but so many other factors [stacks, opponents tendencies, their range, etc.] The reasons general advice is not "transferrable" as you say, is not because of a _fundamental_ difference, but instead because of a difference in the players themselves which change the situation entirely. Pot odds are pot odds and EV is EV, regardless of whether you are playing for m&ms or millions. You do not understand what fundamentals are, let alone the basics to poker if these are your arguments.Quote:

This is what you would find in the Play Money Forum Tactics:
Advice: Play standard ABC poker. No bluffs, play tight, no fancy plays, and get your chips in with the best hand. If you make it up to maximum buy-in Ring, MTTs, and SNGs and you're killing them, find some cash and switch to real money games.
Let's get real here, This guy claims to play live games and he says he has no patience for the online version any more. Fair enough, and a reasonable question. Then his exact words were, and I quote againQuote:

Read the post again. He answered his own question. A question mind you he posted in the holdem strategies forum. A poker forum, and said and again I quote.Quote:

Got news for all of you, I was not out of line. And if you think that was a 2+2 type answer, try posting this exact post in their forum and see what happens. Don't even think I was as bad as they will be. WTF did he expect to hear. I get that we don't want to become 2+2, but does that mean we should roll over and expose our belly every time some "poker player" post some stupid question. This guy doesn't need the Justice League to come to his defense, he needs someone to shake his head, look him in the eye's and say, GET REAL!Quote:

Haha, great attitude trainer.
Anyways, this thread isnt going anywhere so Ill stop bumping it.
As long as we're quoting...

maybe i wasnt clear enough. i never said that playing abc poker wasnt profitable with play money. i said you cant use the same "fundamentals" as in real money games.Quote:

if you play for m&m's, you need to raise pf with more than the "standard 3-4X +1 per limper" to be taken seriously. how many times have you raised 4X pf w/ AK and been called by 5 people? happens at 25 NL, too, but not as frequently. what do you do? start raising 6-8X instead? exactly, but in a free game, you will still likely get called by the same number of players, in spite of your increased raise. another thing, leading out with a 3/4 pot bet wont "thin" any field for play money, either. you have to lead with more, or just push to fold people off their hands.
i suppose you can argue that these extreme examples "can" happen at any limit and any game. i just happen to think this changes the "fundamentals" by which you approach your strategy.
maybe our definitions of "fundamentals" are different.
WTF gettin serious again in this thread?Quote:
