SnG Question.

I'm new and I was wondering which sit n go games are the best to conisistntly win money with.
-$5 SnG
OR
-$10 SnG
OR
-$20 SnG
(All Single Table Regular Speed)

Now I would like to put in my own sense. I think the $20's are the easiest because the people have fold ettiquite. It seems like you have to dodge a drawer almost every hand, despite the size of the pre-flop bet in $5 games.

Fold equity you mean?

You should be able to make money consistently at all of them. Obviously, $20s will give you a higher return because ... obviously ... you win more when you win.

You should be able to beat both the $5 and $10 levels if you are a decent player. If you're losing at those games, you suck at poker and should rethink what you're saying. $20 SnGs aren't easier. Sure they're all easy, but $20s aren't easier than $5s.

It depends on what you mean by "consistently win money". If you mean absolute dollars won, then Courtie is right that the $20s will win you more because the buyin and the prize pool are bigger. If you mean ROI (return on investment) as the % return on your buyins, the lower buyins will definitely win you more on a % basis since the players are worse.

To add to what Courtie said, don't believe the old chestnut "I need to move up to the bigger games because the low buyin players call and call with anything and keep on drawing out on me". In fact, you WANT players to keep on calling with draws against the odds because in the long run you will make money! Sure, you lose when they hit their draws but if you are offering them incorrect odds to draw and they do so nonetheless they are making a mistake.

Bigger buyin games are definitely harder. OK, some jumps like from $5.50 to $11 aren't that big, and depending on the players in each game, some $33s can play like $5.50s, but in general as you move up the games get harder. If you can't consistently beat a lower buyin, then moving up is not the answer!

There is also the question on bankroll to consider. You should have at least 30 buyins for the level you want to play, and arguably more (personally I like 50 buyins but I play turbos which tend to have lower ROI than normals).

I wouldn't say there is "also" the question of bankroll. That is the first question to consider.

And yes, $20s are certainly harder to beat than $10's, which are harder than $5's. You may have an experience at the $20 table that says "man, these people fold easy" but that doesn't mean you will not get heat when you start playing laggy on them. In order to make a fundamental assumption that you can exploit the tagg strategy, you need to first really understand it.

I agree, I didn't mean to de-emphasise the importance of good bankroll management. Play outside your bankroll and either sooner or later you WILL go busto.

I agree 100%. Sure, players at a $22 may be tighter so might fold to your bets/raises more than at a $5.50, but they will also be more aggressive towards you in return and will not stack off as readily with hands you beat when you have something nice. Not to say these games aren't beatable but they are definitely tougher.

Here's a question to ponder, they fold a lot more in the $215's and up than the buy-in's you listed. Does that mean that they are easier? Ah, no. Understand and apply the information that the posters have listed up above and you will do fine.

tapian, or whoever will help, as far as bankroll is concerned, if you are just starting at 5 dollar sngs, you say that 30x is what you want to start with, so my initial bankroll sohuld be (at least) 150?

I think lower level sngs provide a bigger edge against the field, therefore you should experience less swings and therefore I think for $1's through $10's you only need 20 buyins. Just be strict about dropping down a level when you are on the borderline.

I'd say you really only need $110 to be playing at $5 tables but when it drops below $100, keep grinding the $1's until back above $110.

Yea I can't comment on bodog, but I heard it's good. Otherwise Stars is always good if you don't already have on there.

Stars have a first-time deposit bonus for people depositing for the first time (duh!) for first deposits made before the end of the year. Personally I'd start there - they have the greatest selection of games and you can stay there as you move up.

Also, you can try the $3.40 10-person turbos and the $1.75 18-person turbos for some smaller games.
