When should your bets reflect the size of the bb and when should they reflect the size of the pot?
Your question is a little off I think. Your bets are always made with consideration to the size of the pot, and the relative odds you are offering.
Standard notation is to use multiple of the bb pre-flop, and fraction of the pot post flop.
So at 25NL, A $1 raise pre-flop is called a 4xBB raise. SB calls, pot is now $2.50. A $1.25 flop bet is called a 1/2 PSB (pot sized bet).
Thank you for clearing that up. I have been reading posts all over this forum for the past week now, and saw some people talk about bets compared to the bb and ones comparing bets to the pot, so I was a little confused. It all makes sense now. Thanks again.
