No More Nit

So I decided to put a halt to my nitty ways for tonight's 100NL session at WPEX (which is FULL of nits). I 3bet AK/AQ (OMG) and took down some nice pots, I raised my blind neighbors when I had anything decent (middle sc's & up/any 2 broadways/etc.), I raised from CO/BU with anything decent when folded to me or 1-limped to me, I raised from SB with a wide range vs. 1 LP limper. I actually built up a pretty nice stack while rarely seeing a turn and very rarely seeing a river. I think I may have had a revelation :shock: . I felt like I was actually playing poker for the 1st time in a long while. Just wanted to share with everyone. Felt pretty good to get over my nit-fears and just play.

This was one of my fav hands from the session. I never used to do this:

100NL - Full Ring

Hero is BB ($100) with :as: :kd:
Villain is UTG+1 ($100)

Pre-Flop
Villain raises to $4
CO calls $4
Hero raises to $14
Villain calls $10
CO folds

Flop (2 Players, Pot = $32)
:7c: :8d: :2s:

Hero bets $20
Villain folds

Sadly you must play nit v. calling stations. Yes it seems like- this is too simple, too gay, too mathematical and not enough art, fun... well bluff, semibluff, and use hyperagression in no fold'em hold'em and you will be parted from your funds.

Seems like your game was different; however, many, many, many donks out there are calling stations and I must say that I believe the avg. player out there is too loose.... seeing to many flops, hoping for miracle gutshots to come... floating with a pp in the hopes of hitting a 2-outer set... LOADS of retarded shlt that will end in many suckouts against you.

against players with brains you PLAY poker... however at the stakes i play this is a rare occassion. Low limits- sorry, no moves, no 'capitalizing' on weakness (they WILL call you down with mid pair), just boring ABC and overbetting the made hands. No chasing either- donks religiously shutdown when the 3rd spade comes. make a straight tho, quadruple up.

Yes poker can be quite boring ths way..... no foldem holdem is 'lets turn our cards over o look u win'. However being a 'nit' is how to beat it. (jam mades + cheap flops with connectors)

probably wouldn't work as well at pokerroom but at wpex it works fine since that place is a rock garden.

Not really. I want to play lots of hands vs. them so I have more chances to make a big hand and take their whole stack.

Wow, with how much you post, I'm surprised you never made moves like that. Anyway, its great your opening up your game, but try not to worry so much about results. Just like your big cards get busted up playing tight, your aggressive moves are going to be smoothed called or reraised playing looser. Just trying to prepare you, I remember the first time I started opening up my game.

I will tell you this, if you want to play some higher limits, you absolutely MUST open up your game like this. JMO

aggro style and showed couple of bluffs (against micro-stacks
it is very cheap).

Then I limped in multiway pot with KT flop

I played it aggro from the beginning and had 2 players allin
after flop and took huge pot down. Villain1 had 99 of course and Villain2
JQ.

lol i know what you mean. it seems i know what i'm supposed to do. i just haven't really done it much in the past. i've done just fine nut peddling for so long (i played at 25nl for a really really long time & almost completely bypassed 50nl) and now that i'm at 100nl i can really tell a difference in pre-flop tightness (especially at wpex). i noticed my big pp's getting folds lots and lots of times and everyone pretty much just waiting for a big big score so i decided i had to take advantage and play the opposite of the table(s). they were very easy to run over tonight.

The reraise amount is not important and there certaintly is no 'correct amount'. Depends on how you and the table is playing.

Honestly, w/ raises and flop continuations in general, I'm happy to break even on the continuations and scoop up the blinds and antes when they don't call. This is a pretty solid expectation and those blinds and antes add up quickly

no offense, but i honestly cant imagine it was the previous aggression that won this huge pot. it was inevitable, imo, with a set and 2 pair flopped with you. the stars lined up for you here. hard to avoid stacking these two.

i second a previous poster that said "hard to believe you never used this move." welcome to the cbet club. now, do that with 72o and you'll be in the club with the guy who takes my stack when i RR his flop miss...he pushes...and i call again.. he, then, goes runner/runner 7 2 to take my money.

what i was really saying was that i've just sat back and waited for AA & sets forever while bonus whoring 25nl and very very little of 50nl. Now that I'm at 100nl I've really noticed that most ppl are a bit tighter PF (especially at wpex), and I've started to take advantage of it.

umm no. being a nit will be the game, but for a small winrate. playing solid tagg poker will win a lot more. if you can put your opponets on their cards you can make the right bets to make them fold or a lot of times c betting when checked to takes it down. if you are a nit and are never being aggressive and taking down pots when they are there to be taken it probably seems like that, and if you dont play hardly any hands your not in very many situations to take down pots either.

dont you find that if you are in a lot of hands, you lose respect on your cbets? if you play a lot of hands, you make your money because people will give you resistence/value on your good holdings.

not really too much. there are some people you dont want to cbet too much into though. and yeah you do have a better chance of being paid of if youre not being a complete nit.

i just cant imagine you can push most people off a TPTK or 2 pair hand, even with the flushy scare card, when you are 50+/20+ in terms of vpip/pfr.

you may stack me due to nightly luck, but i will call you down incessantly if you are LAGgy and i am in position. granted, when i am vulnerable, i will raise you on the flop and let you off the hook, but when i catch my 2 pair on a ragged board, i get you. oh, btw, you still buy EVERY pot off me when i miss...lol. wonder who wins long term?
