Noob question regarding duration of a typical Poker session

It might sounds like a weird question and I kind of assume what the correct answer is but I was wondering what others usually do.

When I sit down to play Poker I often only play in ‘blocks’ of say 1-3 hours at a time. Then I do something else, have a break and then come back again later. However, especially when I play cash tables and I am not playing them for at least 2 hours straight I quite often end up with a loss. When I play them over a long period of time i.e. 3 hours minimum then I usually end up with a winning session.

Are you guys deliberately finding space and time to play Poker or is it common to watch TV, surf the net and play Poker at the same time? Should I even bother playing the cash tables (play SNG’s instead) if I do not have at least a minimum of 2 hours to play?

I am partly asking as my stats are near identical to some very profitable posters on this site but somehow my win rate is way down. So somewhere along the line I am sure that I am leaving lots of cash behind.

You might have more losing sessions, but this doesn't influence your overall winrate unless you're developing great reads and that's making the difference, or maybe you play better at the end of a session.

However, I wouldn't limit your session to a certain time, especially if you find a great table. I would quit playing when I feel like I'm not playing my best game (tired, upset), not enjoying myself, or the game isn't worth it. Of course, there's always another game...

The reason why I am asking is that I play a very tight but also a very aggressive game i.e. when I enter the pot I was almost always the raiser/re-raiser pre-flop and I c/bet frequently. It takes me usually a while to build up my table image and at the beginning of a session my c/bets or semi-bluffs do not get any respect but when I have shown a few monster hands this usually changes.

So do I loose a lot of value by playing only a short session on a cash table?

What limits do you play at? (i.e. $10/$20 & $30/$60 it would mean a more than $2/$4 & $3/$6 or lower)

On-line, there are often players coming and going. So, trying to build an image to help your win rate later on is tough on-line. Many come and go, and many others don't pay close enough of attention.

Most of your winrate is going to come from solid play against weaker opponents (regardless of your table image). Your image may add some value. But especially on line, I don't think it is worth significant consideration.

Make semi-bluffs when they are, in general, the correct play. Not because you fell you have a tight table image. More often than not, people haven't noticed your table image.
