Very Aggressive players-how do I play against this type?
Good Day ladies and gentles,
I embarked on my local casino's $4/8 game ( thoughts to play very tight and I did until slick came along trying to steal every pot.)
One player(I call him "slick") is always betting/raising each hand pre-flop and on every turn. Most of the time with nothing and sometimes with the goods. With a bigger chip stack than everyone else, they come to the table with the bigger stack or they will play a hand or two. Leave and rebuy to have the bigger chip stack.
My problem is that if I have a good hand after the flop, they stick around till the river and fold only to give another player the best hand that they caught on the river. (The other players stick mostly because of slick.)
slick bets every hand as if it's the best plus it's a low-limit game.
example:
my hand: A :spade: 10 :diamond:
So I raise pre-flop, slick re-raises. Now four of us calls him.
Flop: 5 :spade: 4 :spade: 2 :spade:
I check, slick bets everyone calls
( I check because I knew slick would only raise, and I wanted to see the turn cheaply. Looking for a 3 :spade: Ace or any 3 or any spade on the turn)
Turn: 3 :diamond:
I bet, slick raises, I re-raise, slicks calls and one other player calls.
(I've got the straight, so I re-raise hoping slick or other player would fold. Thinking slick & other player might have high pocket pair, but whomever calls might have suited :spade: flush. I was thinking slick might have a spade.)
River: 5 :diamond:
I check, slick bets, the other player calls him, so I re-raise slicks folds other player calls me. But, the other player only stuck around knowing that slick is going to throw money at the pot regardless of what he had.
slick showed table hand of: 9 :club: Q :club:
other player hand: J :diamond: 5
My question is how to best play against player like this slick? From what I've seen that slick only wins pots where people fold. But he'll bet/raise all the way to the river every hand. My problem is that when I got a hand slick then folds on the river, and then some other player beats me on the river. Would it be better to bet, instead of checking to thin out everyone if I flop the nuts, wheel or high boat. Because, slick is going to hang around until he sees the river everytime hoping everyone mucks there hand giving him the pot. Would it be better to just avoid the slick character all together. Because, when slick loses half of his stack he goes and re-buys more chips.( Whoa, expensive way to play the game slick!!)
I don't know if that is consider aggressive play but I thinks it qualifies as such. Anyone ever play against a slick like this before?
