Now that i got most of ya's attention, I am completly new to this. Recently i was introduced to this game by a friend and am completly hold em mad now!
I would like some pointers on what/where/why/how etc..are the best places to start. I have brought Hold em Poker by David Sklansky and am play reguarly on Empire and Full tilt for PLay money. Until i know what i am doing i am not going to start to place real money anywhere near these sites.
Any help would be much apreaciated.

If your looking to learn, play money isnt the way to go. Id highly suggest depositing $50 into an online poker account. This money will be CRITICAL in your development, and even if you lose it all it will be well worth it in terms of experince. What you read in the books wont be much good in play money tables. People dont care aobut playing proper poker, and using the tactics you read wont work the way they are supposed to. Like i said, spend the $50, youll gain a ton of knowledge, win or lose its a great way to start off your poker career.
Id also suggest reading through all the stickies and threads with alot of replies. FTR has a wealth of knowledge and a ton of good players.

If you can't crush the play money games, the you won't crush the low limit real money games. I played the play money games for over a year before I tried real money. The experience was invaluable in that you can learn to make good reads on the maniacs as well as the tight players. Yes, some people actually play like they care so it is not much different than a fishy low limit table. After amassing $150 million (woohoo, I'm rich!) in play money, I decided it was time to move to real money and I started at $25nl. I crushed $25nl and am crushing $50nl now and am geting ready to move to $100NL soon. My point is that play money tables can be a good learning ground and should not be discounted as useless.
How much do you have to spend? I dont know about full tilt but if you want to start playing at empire (after they kick you off the beginner tables) youll need a good $300 for the 0.50/1 limit or $500 for $25NL.
If you have less than this youll need to start somewhere like pokerstars who offer 0.02/0.04 limit or $2NL or maybe paradise.
I personally think pokerstars is the best site to start by far. Maybe im just biased because its where i grew up or maybe i actually have a point but here are my reasons.
1) The software is simple and it doesnt break down to often (infact it never has in my experience).
2) The customer support is the best of any site that I know of. I heard a story where some guy took a bad beat and jokely threatened to kill himself because of it. A few minutes later the guy in charge of the entire site, Lee Jones phoned his house to check he was ok.
3) The stakes are Low and the players are Bad. Although the games get pretty tight at medium stakes the low stakes games are still easily beatable and IMO the slightly tougher competition will help your development as a player.
4) The bonuses are crap.
This may sound like an odd one, but depositing $50-$100 into most sites will mean you forfeit a good $100 worth of bonus later on. Pokerstars on the other hand sucks for bonuses so you arent wasting anything by making a small deposit and once you work up a sizable bankroll you can move it around to other sites to capitalise on their first deposit bonuses.

Well thanks for the advice all, and Mb2447 sorry mate you came a little late and well....you figure the rest. Ill try and follow this advice although at the moment i am getting hammered. I believe I am trying to play to many hands so ill try and adjust that first.
I am sure I am going to have many questions so ill appoligise now :)

Ok here's one already, can someone explain how you work this out?
So, if I put him on a pair of Ace's, then I would need either a 7 or a Q to complete my straight and win the hand. Therefore, I have 8 outs - the four 7's in the deck plus the four Q's in the deck.
Now, if I have 8 outs, here is the calculation of hitting one of my cards on the turn or river:
There are 47 cards left unseen (I'm holding 2, there are 3 on the board, 52-5= 47). 47 - 8 outs = 39.
My calculation becomes: 1 - 39/47 (turn) * 38/46 (46 cards unseen prior to river):
1 - 39/47 * 38/46 = 31.5%
I have a 31.5% chance to hit my hand over the turn and river.
I mean how do get to the 31.5%....do slash's / mean divide and * mean multiply?
