Don't call

So everyone says that aggression is good, and that certainly makes sense to me. I also hear that calling is often bad, certainly calling down to the river with not a lot is clearly wrong. So what happens if I play my $10 SnG without ever calling? Only fold or raise? Is this even feasible or completely stupid? ;-)

I did see a guy doing something like this, he was raising and re-raising all over the place. He was going great till somone busted him out. I suspect he overdid the bluffs ;-) It made me think anyway. I might learn stuff I wouldn't otherwise come across playing my normal game.

There is nothing wrong with calling and checkcalling if you know what you are doing. You can use it to pot control with light hands, dealing with way ahead/way behind situations, trapping, delayed steals, picking off bluffs. However if you have leaks of "loose passive" nature, then yes it's good to try out raise/fold style of playing and rarely calling. Then you will start to pick situations where calling is better than raising/folding and rediscover "call" button.

Yeah that makes sense, I don't pretend to think it's never good to call. Mainly I am interested in how the other players react to very aggressive play. I'm not sure what my leaks might be, I do the usual starting tight and loosening up as players get knocked out, and I am aggressive when I find myself against one opponnent. However I will fold overcards if someone bets a flop, fold in a flash to re-raises (post-flop) and am hopeless at defending my blinds. The blinds must be a leak, I don't know about the others. It's all situational I suppose. I just downloaded the SNGtool thingy so perhaps that can help me out.

I think calling is great, I rediscovered it after changing to a really aggressive style: It keeps the pot small and it disguises your hand since you don't give out information. I also love trapping people with check calling. In lower buy in sng's people love to do stop n' go (call a raise and go all in if checked to). So you have AK, raise and get one caller. You check on the K high flop and your opp. goes in you call (he is holding a weaker King 50% of the time and nothing or a lower pp the other 50% of the time).

Thanks for the tip. The only "play" I've really found so far is in a limped pot to always bet the flop if there is a pair showing, Even multiway this seems to work almost everytime at my stakes. After all if someone beats me to it and bets first I think well, no point trying to hit my overcard now if that guy has trips and I fold. Thing is if somone does hit trips are they not more likely to slow play? Maybe I should re-raise...

people have played entire sngs blind and done well. (blind as in, covered up that part of their screen and did their best to win)
