steal caught a piece. call river?

I have this happen a lot. I had no good post flop read. Villain folded to a few of my previous steals but might've noticed that I raise and cbet a lot.

Plz tell me what you think of my line, especially the river call. Is it not a bluff enough because of my image and turn check? I'm also not really sure about the cbet.

it is imperative that you bet the turn here. Sometimes I would checkraise even (edit ure in position lol).

as played I think the river is a fold, but you put yourself in a tough spot by showing weakness on the turn. Don't show weakness if you will have trouble calling a bluff.

Why? So we can get c/r'ed off our well disguised backdoor draw, and miss a chance to stack his set? The 4 doesnt' change anything, so he's probably calling another bet on the turn.

OP: Turn check is fine. I would fold the river. You really don't beat much at all with bottom pair. If he did have a worse hand, I would expect him to take the pot away on the flop or turn at the latest.

Whenever I am trying to win a small pot by a late position steal, and they just call me on the flop that they'd probably raise me on to protect their hand from the emminent straight if they had a set or something, and I pick up extra outs on the turn, I am almost always going to fire a second barrell. Its just my natural play in this spot. It also saves us from getting bluffed out on the river when we have a hand that has showdown value, since he is calling with a one card str8 draw and no pair a good bit of the time.

I don't know. I am going to have to think about this some more.

check turn, fold river.

If opp is loose, consider check/folding flop.

I didn't consider a turn bet at first but now I like it. On this site, ppl play pretty passive, so if they have a big hand it's usually a check/MIN-raise, which I could call and definitely stack them on a flush river, but I could also get some more value from draws and sometimes Ace high or lower pairs (this happens more than usual on hollywood 50nl). And as Renton said betting the turn prob leads to an easier check/check river. It also makes me less of a target for floating, something I need to get better at. It's like a block-bet except I can call a raise for pot/implied odds...

bdawg, Irisheyes - I bet checking the turn is better at higher buyins when people check/raise the turn more then min and fold more when their hand is no good...so maybe I should keep this in mind when playing more aware/aggressive tables.

That's kinda what I was thinking...That check/check/big-bet line looked like a slow played monster or a bluff, and as the timer ticked down I "had to see it" because people are doing this OOP-float on me quite a bit except I've been folding the river to smaller bets.

The key for me is how aggressive the villain is. On the turn If he's more likely to check-raise than call, then check, but if he's more likely to call than check-raise, then bet.

That makes sense, thanks. btw it was KT this time :) still think i'm betting the turn as a default though next time since most ppl play passive or minimally aggressive here.

Sorry, I should've been more clear. Obviously your decision of whether or not to fire the turn is heavily dependent on villian. If you know he is a weak/tight player, then by all means, bet the turn. But without a read, I would check the turn b/c people love to call down, and that turn card changed nothing in his eyes.

When he bets the river, the only hand you beat is Tx, where x does not pair the board, and I think Tx makes up a relatively small portion of his range. If he's bluffing with middle pair, you are beat.

Checking behind on this flop is not a bad option too, because you have a small piece of the board with a backdoor flush draw. So there are a decent amount of turn cards that will "help" you.
