BS POKER RULE!! or is it even really a rule?

Ok I'm playing a NL hold'em poker game and this happens...

There's three people to act and I'm first.

I go all in.

The person after me calls and flips his cards over by mistake, forgetting about the third person. He quickly covers them up.

They make him reveal his cards to the third person before she decides if she is going to call or not, despite the fact that I'm all in and me seeing his cards has no affect on me. In fact, this lowers my chances of winning because she gets to decide if she's going to call based on what guy number 2's cards are.

They swore this was the rule that if one person sees the cards, everyone gets to see them but I find it hard to believe that is the rule if someone is all in because then someone could just do that on purpose or two people could be working together.

IS THIS A REAL RULE?

in our home game players cards are not revealed due to a mistake, but cards from the deck are revealed to everyonre due to a mistake
this is a very friendly game with a $5 buyin, so nobodies worried about cheating

I have 3 questions...

1. What did you go All-In with, and in what position?
2. What were his and her cards?
3. Did you win?

that's actually tricky. if one person saw the cards, anyone else can ask to see the cards. i think its probably legit. the only other thing I could see happening is that the cards were still shown to everyone, but the dealer killed his hand and gave his raise back.


oh, and if lukie reads this, i found this rule.
"38. Players are obligated to protect the other players in the tournament at all times. Discussing cards discarded or hand possibilities is not allowed."

C'mon... in a home game get real. There is no need for that. It was a mistake during a friendly game, I would tell them to kiss my ass lol.

In a b&m however, if one person sees a card, by law everyone at the table must see it. I'm not sure the ruling on this however, because usually if cards are exposed the hand is dead.... but he had already called your allin. Fwiw I would tell your friends to quit acting like they're in the WSOP and remind them it is a $5 game and it was an honest mistake.

if the only other active player in the hand did not see the cards then why would the whole table have to see the cards? they're not in the hand. it makes no sense that non-active players would have to see the cards.

There were 4 people left at the table and I was big blind. I was short stacked and I had to make a move. I had AQo and went all in. The 2nd guy had K6o so obviously after the third person sees that she is gonna want in because she had A9s. I did win the hand, lucky for them, or else I was flipping that table right over.

It is a "real" rule, a well-known one (the "show one, show all" rule). However the rule (as far as there can be 'a' standard rule of poker) says that:

The question really is whether you, being all-in, should count as active for the purposes of the rule.
Strictly speaking they may have followed the letter of the law.
In terms of the spirit of the law they pissed all over it.

i know there is a rule where if someone is mucking their hand and a card is flipped, everyone at the table gets to see it.

im not sure if this applys to this situation...it seems like it would but then if you think about it logically it doesn't make since...

i guess its his fault for not paying attention and flipping his cards...oh well

this is a real rule for my home game. Though, for this scenario, we'd let you leave the hand covered.

In any case, you should really wonder about your ability not to tilt if this is making you freak out.

I think by the small stuff, he meant it's one hand, one game, one day. What options do ya have. Quit and never play again with this group or accept the rule and maybe next time it's in your favour. Don't ever play again for $1000's of dollars if it's going to be a problem.

Funny thing is, I get a +1 in post count for this

its simple - There is indeed a rule about show one, show all - This is a different case - If a person is deciding whether or not to call then no, they shouldn't be shown the cards (like in this case when they were flipped over, they should have been covered up and hidden) - Anytime cards are shown it is always AFTER the bets are done - And the show 1 show all rule is intended to prevent collusion....It is more intended for when a card is exposed while dealing and if only 1 person sees it then it should be shown to everyone - In this case, no way - The cards should have been hidden...If people are deciding what actions to take, no cards should be shown - After everything is declared then yeah, show them....sounds like you play with some guys who are 2 serious though...nobody ever intended the rule to include showing someones cards while a person is deciding to call AI or not - that is stupid - "uh, you only have 1 pair, and I have trips so i guess i call" - dumb -

Rules cannot cover all the possible situations, you can have a rule for dealing with exposed cards, but not in every possible betting scenario.
In my home game, we have ground rules, but if the rules dont make sense a person not involved in the pot is giving a judgement call and this is the ad hoc ruling for this case
