Pre-flop Re-Raise Range

I'm curious to hear people's ranges, with position against an unknown pre-flop raiser. Mine is usually AA-JJ & AK. Is anyone's significantly wider? Does anyone occasionally cold-call with AA or KK for deception purposes?

I feel like pre-flop re-raises are given a lot of credit at 50NL and make it hard to get paid off by weaker hands. This makes me think I should either a) use them less often to get paid off more by my best hands, or b) use them more often so I can steal pots from better hands that miss the flop. I'm leaning toward b...

It so depends on so many factors.

I am not sure where I stand in this department so I will list the situations where I currently reraise, and hopefully receive critique from lukie or someone.


I'll reraise PF:

1. When I have position on an EP raiser, but am out of position my self (e.g. in UTG+ 2 or middle position) with a premium hand like QQ+ AK. I don't reraise for value, but for isolation. I don't want a bunch of call-behinders, and I'd like to gain position after the flop if possible.

2. When I have position on a semi-loose raiser and one or two callers of his raise. The closer I am to the button, the more capable I am of doing this with almost any two cards, but my typical range here is TT+, AQ+, AJs+.

3. When I am in the blinds or OTB and an aware player with at least 9% PFR makes an obvious steal in late position. I am capable of having any two cards here, but usually I have at least a suited ace or king.

4. Whenever I am in the blinds with a premium hand and its raised in front of me. I never get cute and cold call when I will be out of position.

5. When I am in the BB with any top 5% hand and it folds to the SB who raises. I am more likely to do this if SB is aggressive, because I know he could have garbage here a whole lot. Also its not too bad even if he has something, because I have position on him.

Whenever I have a premium hand in position against a straightforward player who raises in front of me, if I think the pot will be heads-up, I only call, any time I can. The deception of being in a non-reraised pot with AA, KK, QQ, AK is almost always worth the risk.

What is your thought behind this raise and how would you play the rest of the hand when you do this with any two?

the preflop reraise has immediate +EV, as does the flop continuation bet.
