Theoretically, you should have a somewhat higher br requirement for multi-tabling because your winrate typically drops as you add more tables exposing you to more variance. But if you are a good bit higher than the required br, you should feel free to multi-table. 2 tables usually isn't much of a drop off, but I wouldn't think it wise to play say 5 or more tables if you just barely have the br for the stakes.
My was of looking at it - it really curbs tilt. Whenever you single table a tourney,and lose, and then lose agian, you start to question yourself. I 3 table due to scrren size and its not overly hard to follow. I play 6$ 1 table turbos and when your 3 tabling and you lose a table you dont have time to get mad or upset over it cuz youve still got 2 tables. lose in another one then your like oh well, ive still got this table going. lose the last table, you just got unlucky.
With no tilt/multitableing game problems... you need the exact same bankroll.
But, a normal person will need to adjust at some point.
Personally, 2 - 4 tables of ring or 2-3 tables of SnG/MTT and I dont need to adjust my bankroll requirements.....
After (and before) that I do need to adjust because I cant play them as well on autopilot, and I cant play as well bored.
That makes my BB/100 and ROI drop because skill becomes a little less of a factor, and luck becomes a little of a factor.
I actually play my best when i'm 2 tableing.
Other players are diffrent.
You will really need to figure out the answer to this yourself... Start with the standard rules as a minimum... and move up from there as needed by looking at how your ROI and BB/100 number change as you play more tables.

No no no! More tables = LESS variance, or rather more hands = less variance. Your win rate CAN drop because of a number of factors:
- You go on tilt and it affects all the tables on which you're playing (ditto tiredness, boredom, inebriation)
- you can't take as full an advantage of reads
- you get hurried/flustered/overwhelmed when all your tables require attention at once
However, it can also help - you get less bored, you slip into a groove more easily and don't get distracted, and of course good play on one can encourage you on others.
So, theoretically, you don't need a bigger bankroll, but you can theoretically take a bigger hit the more tables you play so psychologically you might want to make sure that ypur roll is big enough for any loss to leave you down but not out.
