Reading people online

What sort of things should I be looking for when it comes to making reads on people online?

I'm guessing that as I obviously can't see their face, I need to be looking at their betting patterns but I'm still not quite sure what I should be looking for. Any suggestions would be helpful, but here's a few that I thought of on the train on the way in this morning.

- How many hands they play
- How agressive/tight they are pre-flop and what dictates this
- How their betting pattern changes on the turn and river when they have a big hand or are bluffing

Am I on the right tracks here or should I be trying to keep notes on other areas.

You are right on track.

- Do your opponent only over bet as a bluff, does he mini-raise with monsters, does he check-call with draws, etc.

I also recommend to use a tracking software which helps a lot, especially if you're playing more than one table. I use Poker Office 2 which has a nice built in tracker.

1 online tell that i've found that holds up in the 25NL and the Limit games up to 3/6 is that when players bet Super fast on the river, that is a sign of a bluff...I've actually been slowing myself down on purpose when I bluff, because I used to do the same thing -

also, the EP limp followed by an All In (after someone raises) is a Tell Tale sign of KK & AA - I don't know why they love to play it that way, but they do -

They are probably afraid that you hit something on the flop and want to get you out with the all in bet to ensure you dont catch something to beat the pockets, but you're right, I've noticed that and been caught by it also LOL

Ill use that sometimes,limp in EP with AA and hope somebody raises so i can go all in.Alot of times they just call.
Only do this on a table with laggy players though.

Why? A decent laggy player will just fold - loose aggressive doesn't mean "will call a pre-flop all-in with a less than premium hand". Laggs play a lot of hands, win a lot of bluffs but win more by dropping the hammer when they DO have a hand and no-one believes them.

Or did you mean because you might get a few callers to the original raise?
