5/10, trips against villian with scary line

the short stacks sucks and i didnt raise the turn because i didnt want to shut out MP because he is solid. i was also sure i could get SB's money on the river if he ahd a king, so i didn't think i needed to raise the turn for value. MP's line looks really scary so i made a blocking bet on river planning on folding to a push.

thoughts?

I would probably lead the flop about 75% of the time here. You played it fine tho. Probably fold to a raise on river?

I like check calling this river better personally. You do have to fold if he raises.

Doesnt hero lose value from a K then?

I would have raised the small blind on the turn unless he was super passive. Otherwise I would have played the same. Stats would help here tho..

no, if he's raising a king on the turn he's going to bet the river with it.. and it does get another bet out of him if he's bluffing. You really think AK pops this turn and then checks behind on river?

i dont think this is true, people bet/raise turn alot for cheap showdowns

gabe: the flop check increases likelihood of villain interpreting that last
$300 as a blocking bet/steal and accordingly gets more calls w/ Kx than any sort of bet he's going to make if you check to him on the end - more likely to call $300 bet than to actually bet that amount (or more) if checked to in that spot. it really depends on your read, whether or not he's the type of player to bet pot or even overbet on a bluff. if he's capable of doing that, then a check might be in order, but it sounds like he's solid from your initial post so i think your bet size is right. if he pushes to that bet size you're probably done w/ the hand.

that seems silly to me, if they are doing this they should be exploitable players. it's pretty much just the same as a blocking bet, when you should really just be trying to get max value.

but, I think maybe lead / folding would get more value just because you can bet larger than the bet they make that you will be calling. like above poster said.

Ender could you say how you would play KQ if you were the villain here. From villains perspective a blocking bet on turn looks pretty tempting, I know that you might lose some value from hands that arent bluffing but it does make things a lot easier. I mean, if you raise the turn with KQ and get a caller. Are you really going to bet the turn when checked with KQ? Against an average villain I wouldnt..

wasnt the hand you posted full ring? its harder to win pots without a hand in full ring because others are more likely to be entering the pot with really good hands.

sootedness is a big deal also
