Focus on ring, SnG, or both?

I've been playing real money games for almost a week now. About to clear the bonus on pokerstars, and at that point will be have a bit more than 2x what I put in.

I've found that ring games look more profitable, but I'm seeing a lot more swings in the $0.5/$0.1 tables than I'd like. I'm doing significantly better in the SnGs (overall 72% ROI according to PokerTracker), but this might be because I've played in hundreds of play-money SnGs since new years, and the play isn't that different. At least, it's not as different as playmoney ring vs $ ring.

So, I know I'm biased towards SnGs, based on current performance and past experience.

What I want to know is this: from a long-term perspective, is it more profitable to focus on Ring, focus on SnG, or do both and stay well-rounded?

Also: do the swings get better (assuming TAGG play) at higher limit ring games, or is this sort of thing comparable?

I play ring to fund the S&G's. I like tournys and S&g's better but they kill my BR. So I play ring to fund my bad habits until I have enough to ride the swings.

Ehh, how many SNGs have you played in the past week? A 72% ROI at any level at pokerstars isnt sustainable, so dont be surprised when that takes a big drop.

The swings I would say throughout all levels is probably the same, if anything Id guess that the swings at the midlimits are the lowest. At microlimits people are going to be chasing more, so you will make more money but the variance will be higher, and at the high stakes games the play is much more aggressive, this could be off though.

SNGs should have the least variance and are the easiest to master. Stick to those and worry about getting down the basics first, if you later decide to make the switch, then go for it. The profits at cash games will be higher [in a vaccum] but its more important to do what suits your play the best.

Some people like sngs, some like rings, whatever works for you.

What level are you playing at?

Low levels right now - micro limits to $5 1-table SnGs. Those numbers are over only 18 games, but there are a few bad beats in there too (anyone ever gone out in their first hand with AK v KK and an A flops after all-in PF?)

Ring is soooooooooooooooo much more profitable rather than SnGs.

From the 2+2 FAQ:

For a "good player" the following ROis are good, while 4 tabling:

11s - 25% ROI
20s - 20% ROI
33s - 16% ROI
55s - 13% ROI
109s - 10% ROI
215s - 7% ROI

So at the $5.5s Id say 30ish is probably possible
