When to fold an overpair post-flop

I think this is one of the most crucial things for beginner players to learn - making good folds post-flop with TPTK/Overpairs.

By raising on the flop you said...I have an awesome hand and with is raise on the turn he said "bitch please." I think this is an awesome lay down...I agree with you that most beginners wouldn't make this laydown. ..This is how most decent players make their money.. The trouble with laying down overpairs and TPTK at the 50nl level and under is that it is very rarely the right move. Against a typical player at 25nl its correct to get all in with AA on a 478 flop. Statistically 99-KK show up more than sets so its a profitable play.

I don't think you NEED to get good at releasing overpairs until 100nl. However it will def. help your winrate to make laydowns like martin.

i disagree renton. knowing when to throw away an overpair at 25nl and 50nl is a nice skill to add to the arsenal. it's a lot easier on flush draws. i still have a hard time uncovering sets and laying down top pair or overpairs.

I agree...I have trouble laying down top two pair in 25 NL.but an over pair or TPTK?? no problem...if a guy bets all in for 10 dollars on the turn after you raised on the flop he has got to have your over-pair beat..plain and simple..If he has the stones to bet all in here w/ a worse hand than an over pair I will give him a donk pass...

also in this particular case the T of spades is an awful card.. If the guy called your raise w/ a draw, he just hit it...Any flush draw or any str8 draw just got there...if he was calling hoping to stack you he just hit the perfect card

I hate to call all my chips w/ only 1 pair...

Against typical fish at 25nl I play for stacks with AA on an unsuited, uncoordinated, T high flop every time.

I still have some trouble with TPTK and overpairs so thanks for making this topic. Definitely a good fold in the hand above.

I agree. which I think is also why when I hit 100nl i sucked hardcore for a bit because i couldnt lay them down.

Villian played it nicely, he put you on a tough decision. The Js is a very bad card for you as it completes both the gutshut str8 and flush draws.
I think it is a good fold, I am not sure you are behind here, but you are definitly playing for all your stack, you have 4.5 invested, no need to risk $20 more on marginal position
