Poker books
I know there is a place to read about poker books on this website but I want to know from people on this forum, what poker books would you HIGHLY recommend for a "amateur" player. I'm no pro but I'm not a complete beginner either. I've played for about a month and a half now and placed in the top 20 of a 2000 man FO.
Just looking to sharpen some skills by doing a whole lot of reading :) Thanks all!

I'd recommend taking part in the "Theory of Poker" study group that's starting in I think a week. I've only heard good things about the book and it could be very helpful to study it together with others in this way. Got the book today and it seems promising.
Other than that I personally look forward to "Theory of No Limit Hold Em" when it comes out. Should be around when we finish the study group of TOP.

Harrington on HOldem 1
Little Green Book
Small Stakes Holdem (yes its limit, but its o so good)
Theory of Poker
Harringon on Holdem 2
Kill Phil
In that order wouldnt hurt. HOH1 should be read first however.

Thanks guys :) Going to get a bunch of books today or tomorrow.

Definitely HoH 1 and 2... Can't recommend them highly enough.

Hm, poker books. I'm kinda hoping I can learn the tricks of the trade from this fine website and generally personal experience.. if I had the extra money to invest in a book I'd probably dump it in my BR. Hm, chick just brought me €14.. that's $15. Maybe I should hurry off to the bank and get it on my roll asap. Damn, out of cigarettes. Ok, the roll has to wait. Nicotine comes first sadly.
Girl also said I looked like shit. Probably been analysing lines and board reads for way too long. Should get some sleep. And definately stop posting here.
Thx for reading and sry to hijack.

I am buying HOH 1 and 2. Heard from tons of people that they're amazing books.

Speaking of Small Stakes Hold-em.. I just bought it last night, but I am wondering if I should read it now or hold off a bit.
Since it is generally on Limit, and I am learning to play No Limit, I am thinking it might muddle the waters?
Thoughts?

Don't think it would hurt to read it Wayne. Will just broaden your knowledge :)

DO NOT FORGET!
Pot-Limit & No-Limit Poker by Stewart Reuben, Bob Ciaffone.
and Zen and the Art of Poker
Super System hasnt even been mentioned yet - didnt really appeal to me when I borrowed from a mate, but worth checking out.
I think every serious poker player should have a good library of books, so you end up with your favourite ones you can read over on train journeys and whatever.

Super/System was my first poker book, and I still go back to it, but really it just confused the living shit out of me for a long, long time. It's not a beginner's book, IMO.
The fact that my 2nd poker book was Hellmuth's Play Poker Like the Pros didn't help much either.
-
Super System is a great book but in my opinion much of the advice in it is not appicable. Still has some great info in it but by no means is it a basis for a low stakes NLHE game.
-
Maybe I can just buy any poker book I find? That'd work :)

ok if youve been playing less than 6 months i recommend TOP, HOH, Green Book, PL&NL HE & Zen. havent read ssh or kill phill. but yeh get ss when you're playing 200nl+
i also started with play poker like the pros, not a great book to start with at all [and this is not implieing its too advanced, it was just too bland]
