Question about the different size ring tables...

I have a question about the different size ring tables at different sites. I'm basically wondering about full ring. Some sites have 10 seat tables, others have 9 seat and still others have 8 seat for their full ring tables.

My question is on the 8 seat full ring tables, do you play these more like a 6 max table than a 10 max table?

Reason I'm asking is I play pretty tight, mostly using aok's 19 hands at the 25NL level. On sites like Party that have 10 seat tables I do well. I also was doing decent when I played at Stars with the 9 seat tables. But I'm bonus whoring the B2B sites right now and their full ring are 8 seat tables. For some reason the site Im whoring right now is eating my lunch. I'm playing it the same way I would a 10 seat table, except its an 8 seat table. Some of this problem I'm having is the blinds do come around more often so that helps eat up your stack a little faster.

I also think a 6-max game resembles a full ring game moreso then most people think.

Basically, if you are playing an 8-handed game, you should loosen up a little bit. Just a bit.

I've loosened up some. I'm running roughly in the range of 12-18% V$IP. This has been the same at both PP and B2B. Maybe it's just the players at B2B are alot looser than PP (I know, hard to believe). I've had many times when at B2B they call down $2 and $3 bets after the river with nothing but an ace high. I'm just on a bad run of variance over there I guess.

Well:

10max= 9 other hands. 1/5 times you'll be paying the blinds.

8max= 7 other hands. 1/4 times you'll be paying the blinds.

6max= 5 other hands. 1/3 times you'll be paying the blinds.

4max= 3 other hands. 1/2 times you'll be paying the blinds.
=> 4 people left including you in any game type.

So as you can see, if we take a 10% chance that someone is holding a good (or better) hand.. at 10 max this is "most of the time", at 8max "more often than not", at 6max "half the time" and at 4max "more likely noone has it than that someone has it".

So it's like a sliderule in which your hand becomes more valuable as the amount of players decreases.

Now, the blinds eating you faster means you have to recuperate them faster just to break even. When you go from 10max to 8max, there is already a 25% increase in blind payment.

So as the amount of players decreases:
* Hand values on your hands go up because it's less likely someone else has something decent. (ie play more loose)
* Draws and such become less playable (too little players to pay off)
* Bluffing becomes more necessary because you need to be able to generate extra income from nothing-hands just to recuperate blinds-loss.

I see this as a "slide-rule".. become more loose, more aggressive and more inclined to bluff with each less player.

Ok maybe this is not very helpful lol.. if you want firsthand experience at this I'm sorry I can't give it lol, I can only give you the "math" behind it at this moment.

I think this is pretty accurate. A little looser, but closer to 10max. However the 8max tables often play with 7, 6, or less if some are sitting out or someone leaves. You have to constantly be aware of how many players are in each hand. At a 10max PP table it's not that big of a difference if it's 8 or 9 handed. It becomes a much bigger difference on an 8max.
