200 NL set vs. overpair

Well played? I tried to learn from my previous mistakes of playing sets against suspected overpairs..

I tried to make my hand look weak so that he would keep trying to value bet me, then commited him on the river and pushed.

I think it's more likely he has an overpair. You also played this hand really well. First off you bet it out, and when he raised you just called; then you called the turn, and raised all in on the river with a card that definately didn't help you. It's hard to put you on a set with any of your moves, though maybe by the river he might know you are slowplaying.

He's not going to raise a flop with top or middle set. He seems to be protecting something, it's definately an overpair. But if he played a set like that it would be nice and agressive.

nicely played. I do the same thing, I play like I hit TPTK and hope he has an over pair.

Good intentions, but the PF raise then the check--raise on the flop throws up a red flag for me. AA,KK,QQ lead out on this flop pretty much all the time unless your opponent really likes to get cute. Most don't though.

Generically speaking, I use basically the same line in EP when I hit a set and strongly suspect an over pair. Weak lead on flop... induces raise... smooth call raise... check turn... opponent bets on turn. The way I play the turn depends mainly on stack sizes and wether or not their are other people still in the hand. If I feel my opponent is already committed I may just go ahead and check-raise him AI on the turn. I'll also check-raise on the turn if there are still other people hanging around. If we're HU and stacks are deep though I'll often smooth call again on the turn. I do again if I feel that check-raising may induce a fold. Instead I call and lead out on the river for a substantial, yet callable amount. They'll very rarely fold to this river bet and sometimes will even come over the top of it. I think checking for a third time on the river is a mistake because they're usually committed to calling any bet you make anyways. Going for the check-raise on the river though may wiff if they check behind because their afraid of the consecutive smooth calls.
