I seem to get my poker time in 45min-1hour blocks. Hence, I play PS turbo and PP SNGs. Does it make sense to play ring games in 45 minute blocks? If so, how would you play? The same? I guess you wouldn't bother with setting up a table image.
I guess I can sit out a bunch of hands if I gotta put the baby to bed or something.
I don't like playing ring games in a short timeframe, I feel pressure to make money and it just dosent work like that. Even aggressive play requries time to build reads, establish a table image and patients to strike that killer blow. Often I'll be at a table for 3+ hours and only make serious money in the last 1/2 hour when eveything comes together.
If you only have an hour to spare then SNG's are ideal, there you have to get everyones chips within that hour to win the most money.
My ring sessions range anywhere between 30 minutes to 6 hours, while multi-tabling 5. I don't think there is a maximum, but there is a minimum. I like the point that was made concerning pressure on yourself if you sit down for a short period of time. One may feel as if there was little to no point in playing for 30 minutes if their only profit was a few bucks, which may change their game for the worse.
I like to give myself a couple hours at least. It gives me a chanece to get into my 'A' game and preform at my best. If I play for 30 minutes, I may try to force it out, and we all know that this approach is not going to work.
I like this topic. I usually play for 1-3 hour sessions. One leak in my game is setting up a LAG table image when I won't be around to take advantage of it. I need to play more straight forward during shorter sessions, but I almost can't help trying to get fancy. Discipline is a bastard.
Those of you who play tight and are concious of your table image; do you play tighter when you are getting ready to leave, since you won't be around to profit from your loose image?
Do most people even try to change gears?
Interesting topic. I usually do 2-3 hour sessions, and some 3+ sessions, but not very often. I find I concentrate better during these short sessions, and don't mind doing two of them a day. Maybe I just have to adjust to longer sessions though.
I rarely play more than 1.5 hours, and often only 45 minutes. Usually the whole table will be different people by the time I leave even for these short durations, so I don't really see how playing longer can be better. I am trying to work on playing good poker for longer but I get LAGGier the longer I play so its good for me to stop for awhile.
JCooper, I'm the exact same way, I rarely play for more than 2 hours because I seem to get too LAGGY and find myself somewhat bored trying to force moves. Of course I also agree that a session shouldnt be shorter that about 30 minutes and I usually dont bother to play if thats all the time I would have.
Hopefully I can get a little better at maintaining my concentration for long periods of time.
