tournament/cash game: I do I adjust?

I'm playing an 8 persons tournament tonight and I was wondering what are the major differences between playing cash games and tournaments.

I may be wrong (and that's where you people are useful) but here's how I see it:

- I should try to loosen up and limp to see the flop when the blinds are cheap (in the beggining) and tighten up postflop.

- I have to be aggressive when I sense weakness in my opponents or have a good read on them 'cause I can't wait for the ultimate nut all night (does that make sense?)

Well that's all I can think of in terms of variation between cash games/tournaments. So please help me in a constructive way 'cause you have more experience than I have that's for sure.

You wanna play way way tight in the early rounds. No AT etc.

If you enter a pot do it for a raise so you can show believable continuation aggression post flop. Except for low pps etc.

Blind steal to keep your stack topped up. (Not in the early rounds when blinds are worthless). And pay attention to who you are stealing off.

You want one hand to push and double up on about half way through, not a load of limp folds dwindiling your stack.

Read the stickys in the SnG forum. They'll tell you a lot more then I can.

things like pot odds and EV aren't the same in tournaments, you have to focus on survival, and not risking all your chips on 57:43 situations

Fold equity is also something to consider later on, when one hand might determine whether you bust out or make money.

With that said, don't play weak tight. If you have a strong hand, get your chips in there.

Well, I ended up in first place winning 120$ (sweet :cool: ).
That TLR sticky in the SNG forum was very useful. I played very few hands in the early rounds, folded stuff like AT, AJ, etc... hands I would normally have played in the past, folding my TPTK when I didn't have a read and my opponents was being way aggressive and it turned out to be profitable . On the third hand of the tourney, I was handed AK and doubled up on it catching nut straight on the turn and doubled up right there (well, was kinda lucky the other player had trip Q (second nut)). From there, I didn't waste any unnecessary money and just watched other player beating the shit out of each other with stupid hands while I took note of how some donk called PFR with Q9o, etc...At the times we got to 4-handed and the blind got bigger, I was the low stack (having suffered a few bad beats) and I switched it up to loose aggressive and was lucky I catched a streak of good hands, pushing them and having my opponents calling me with middle pair so from there it just went uphill and I ended up winning so that was a good night I must say. :lol:
