Dealer Choice Ring games - Do you allow All-Ins?

Hey all,

So first of all, I'm thinkin of switchin to ($0.25 value) chips from $10 change bags for the Dealers Choice buyin, post tourney (so I can utilize some of the 300 white chips ($1) I currently do not use. Do chips / cashing out work better/worse/same? It seems like it would be a big inconvienence to have to stop playing at any given time to cash people out throughout the night.

Second, I currently don't allow All-Ins. So if you wanna keep up with the bettin, you gotta go diggin, and come up with more $ or fold. Seems harsh, but it's only dimes and quarters ($0.10 ante, $2 max bet). Helps to keep the $3 buyin players from gettin too stupid (or whatever amount they pull outta thier pockets). So how do you handle your cheap, friendly Dealers Choice games (that tend to get expensive cause SOME $$$ people fail to grasp the concept of a Cheap, Friendly, 'Waistin the night away' card game......sorry...somewhat irrelevant thought)?

HuH? I don't understand why you wouldn't allow all-ins.

So you're saying that if I have the nuts, but don't have the money to match a bet, I have to fold? That's ludicrous. I'm not going to go digging in my wallet to play.

That's what the chips are there for. You only have to wager the amountof chips you have on the table. If you want to buy in for more, great; if you want to buy in for less, great. I don't understand why you're trying to cripple "the $3 buy in players".

The important thing to remember when playing with chips is that you can't rebuy or cash out in the middle of a hand. If you're buying an additional $3 in chips during a hand that you're involved in, those chips don't come into play until the next hand.

And as far as dealer's choice goes, my friends and I play that all the time. You just pick a game as it gets to each person; chip denominations stay the same. Stack sizes stay the same. If someone needs to cash in / cash out, let 'em do it. You're playing with friends, right? And you trust your friends not to cash out more than they have in chips, right? What's the problem? Let the guy who needs to cash out do it while the rest of you are playing.

If you're truly running a "cheap friendly 'waistin' the night away' card game, I don't know why you'd disallow all-in's. Some games and variants kinda get messed up when people go all in, because of repercussions in the game that people don't think about it, but that's part of hte fun of dealer's choice. Nobody's supposed to know how to play at an expert level.

Just to clarify: All-Ins are allowed in the tourney. MY post/poll is about POST tourney when we play DEALERS CHOICE with CHANGE, NOT chips.
Also, we have had a few players buyin with "$3", triple up by going all-in in the first round, then leave (all within 10 min). Hence the reason ALL-INs were omitted.

I never insinuated I wanted to "cripple" the "$3" players, the point was to keep them from bettin crazy, since it's only $3, which always happened.

No they are not ALL friends, they are coworkers. I have a couple friends. No, I do not trust coworkers, or friends of friends. With that said, I have to cash them out.

Makes sense, and your right, but understated the fact that some games get kinda messed up with all-ins - more correctly, some games we play would get REAL screwed up if 6-7 players were all-in, playing a progressive pot game. There could be 4 or 5 side pots by the time it finished. Granted this would definately NOT be one of those "cheap" dealers choice games, they do get played nonetheless. So how would this situation be handled / better yet averted?

I just do it tourney style. You get X chips for X money and the last 3-4 people get paid. It keeps people from doubling up and then cashing out

my homegames when we play ring its just 8 or 9 friends but we play by you must wait 45 minutes to an hour to cashout. sounds bad cause its a ring but its usualy a 5c 10c game so they dont mind it too much. they can always sit on their stack all night which is fine but after so long their bound to play hands like everyone else.

I like tourney home games not tourney cash games.
