I am right to agonize this river call?

Am I right to worry about this call? Should I have even called?
Where and how could I have played this better to gain more information. I know if I wouldn't have limped from CO with this crappy hand I wouldn't have had this decision. But if you found yourself here with 9Ts, what would you have done?

Re-raise on the flop for more information. If he raises you again, you're outkicked and it's just a question of pot odds & implied odds if you want to draw to your three tens. If you re-raise and he flat calls, he can't beat your nine, more than likely - but he may also have a similar hand like J9 which you're just going to have to pay off.

Bottom line, another $2 raise on the flop might save you the rest, or might tell you your hand is good. The way you played it, I don't know if you can fold the river. Your hand is strong but your information is dangerously incomplete.

push the flop. high chance of being beat here, but he's short stacked and at 25nl people are dumb, you'll win enough.

Dale, well put. I totally see your point. Do you think a $2 flop re-raise is enough to gain information without looking too weak? My concern is he'll just push over the top of me if he senses weakness. Then I'll have to let it go b/c of my weak kicker.
Probably not a huge concern at $25NL, but I need to learn.

The only reason I suggest that small of a re-raise is that if you raise more and he re-raises you, you're committed to a call. If you're going to re-raise more than $2, you may as well just put him all in and get it over with. Which is really not a bad play, because you figure to be ahead at least half the time, and you've probably got 3 outs if you're wrong.

It's arguable whether that re-raise at $25 NL is effective or useful. It may not be. At higher stakes with good players it can be both. I haven't played the $25 level recently so I can't say for sure.

Push the flop. Why play a hand like 9To if you aren't going to play it when the flop trips you up? Also, I wouldn't make a habit of limping in with hands like 9To, especially if there aren't huge implied odds involved, which there weren't. At least you had position though. :D
