I just finished work on an import tool similar to PokerTracker since I can’t afford PT yet. Here is an interesting view of my first 1000 hands.

My first thought was that it is clear I play too much crap on the button. Tightening up in LP should help that. But the more I think about it, the more I think it could be more complicated than that. I do play almost anything on the button and that is going to stop.

Another thing different about my play in LP is that I’ll raise far more often than with EP. The only hands I’ll raise from EP are Group 0-2 hands. So it could be that I bet too often in LP and too often I end up getting pushed off these hands…accounting for the loss in LP.

On the other hand, for some time now I have felt like I seem to get my best hands in EP and 1000 hands may be too small of a sample size to even out the distribution. This is where you can help me. Do you think 1000 hands are enough to make judgements off the chart above? It seems pretty dramatic so I am inclined to believe it shows a REAL trend and not a data anomaly.

Never mind. I think I answered my own question.

I queried for how many hands I played that were group 0-4 by position. I get 84 on the button and 86 in SB. Which means that the distribution was the same for both positions.

Then I queried the win/loss for this same set of hands and find that for some reason I lose those same hands in LP that I win in EP. Odd. So the main difference is that I raise these hands in LP and that somehow sets me up for a loss. Hmmm. Not sure what to make of that.

And 1k hands is too small of a sample. One monster hit in the SB and one bad beat on the button could account for your discrepency.

Thankyou for fixing my table.

I think I'll review the hands in question to see if this means anything about my game or not. I should be able to just review large wins or large loss hands in those postions to figure this out.

Ahh yes. I lost > $7 on the button to a full boat when I held Ace high flush….and I had several nice wins in the SB. One with 4 of a kind 5s. Yeah, 1000 hands are not enough to determine anything.

The tool was only made to work with pokerstars and is customized to look for my name. On top of that there is no interface at all. I just do the queries in the MS Access database. Sorry, it wasn’t really made to distribute.

While 1000 is definately too small sample, there is an interesting tendency in this draft. There is very strong correlation to the better position, the more money lost (or not won). I believe there is a problem here somewhere, beyond a few bad beats. I'd definately look though the HHs, fix what you find and run the next 1000 hands seperately. I bet we see the correlation deteriorate.
