This scenario comes up fairly regularly, and the results are fairly predictable. I raise preflop and an unimaginative player coldcalls. I flop something like top pair and bet, he flat calls. Turn card is a brick. I bet, he raises. How confidently can I laydown a TPTK-type hand here? It seems to be a fairly consistently safe laydown. Thoughts?
Can you post a couple of examples. Be easier to give feedback than to say, in general, calldown with your TPTK.
i dont fold TPTK much HU.
I think this is entirely read dependant. I have laid down AK when I flopped top 2 pair twice, both times against a tight player who had a set.
I have also taken AK unimproved to showdown against a player who had raised me on the turn and won.
Without a read against an unimaginative player you have to consider their likely holdings, and understand that you may have outs against 2 smaller pair or something similar. If the pot is large, it is usually incorrect to fold. Against an agressive player who will raise with a wide range including hands you can beat, you are often tied to the pot.
In a blind war situation or shorthanded, it is almost always incorrect to fold top pair, and heads up often any pair has showdown value.
Depends on the limit and player. In general, top pair is my minimum to call down turn raises.
Here's an example. My default response is to go into calldown mode.
(I know it's not an exact example because I wasn't the aggressor preflop, but it illustrates the concept I'm referring to.)

It truly is a read dependent situation as stated above. Even if he IS being tricky, I'm calling down HU here to see wtf he is up to and maybe still win the hand. I see that turn donkbet alot and still get shown a weak hand.
