The PPA sent out an encouraging email today regarding NY.

It will be awesome if the state of NY regulates online poker for its population of 20 million or so. If they were to share players with NJ then we're talking about a population of around 30 million. Hopefully we won't be in a situation where online poker rooms have to wait for brick and mortar casino developments.

Here are the words from the PPA:
Washington, D.C. (February 2, 2016) – The Poker Players Alliance (PPA), the leading poker grassroots advocacy group with 1.2 million members nationwide and more than 40,000 activists in New York, today applauds the Senate Committee on Racing, Gaming and Wagering for passing through legislation to license and regulate Internet poker in the state.

“The PPA thanks Chairman John Bonacic and the Committee for acting quickly to pass iPoker legislation through the Senate Committee on Racing, Gaming and Wagering. If passed into law, the bill would provide New Yorkers who play poker online with a safe and regulated environment, while bringing in revenue for the state,” said John Pappas, executive director of the PPA. “We encourage the Finance Committee to move quickly to usher the legislation through the Senate, and also urge the Assembly to move forward with their respective legislation.”

While the introduction and movement of Internet poker legislation in New York is a positive step forward, some lawmakers have suggested that the bill should not move forward until New York’s commercial casinos are operational.

“It would be a mistake for New York to wait for its brick-and-mortar casinos to go online. Moving Internet poker legislation now would establish an existing customer base of poker players for brick-and-mortar casinos when they open their doors for business,” said Pappas. “It’s New York’s turn to give their consumers what New Jersey, Nevada and Delaware constituents already have—a safe and regulated online market that is accountable to the players, regulators and law enforcement.”
