PokerStars Weekly News Update 6/18/2012
1. The PokerStars Half-Off Sunday was a big success, creating some massive prize pools. In the Sunday Million, over 20,000 players entered the $107.50 event, creating a $2,021,600 prize pool. Over $194,000 of the pool went to winner "Sykoen" from Norway, who earned nearly $200k despite agreeing to a 3-way chip-chop.
2. Team PokerStars member Vanessa Selbst cracked the $5,000,000 mark in career earnings this past week. Her $161,345 cash for finishing 3rd in a $2,100 WSOP put her just past the $5M mark. Since 2006, Selbst has nearly earned more money than any woman in poker history, and could eclipse all-time leader Kathy Liebert ($5,837,481) by the end of the 2012 World Series of Poker.
3. Speaking of PokerStars Women, Celina Lin just won her second Red Dragon Championship, earning HK$854,000 in the process. Lin, who is from Shanghai, is an up and coming tournament professional who burst onto the scene back in 2008. Since then she has a couple major wins to her name, and a couple close misses in ANZPT events.
4. PokerStars Team Online member Kevin "Wizard0fAhhs" Thurman recently earned his 5,000,000th career VPP. Besides all of the VIP rewards he has earned, PokerStars sent him a nice Tag Heuer watch as a token of gratitude.
