Default PokerStars Weekly News Update 5/21/2012

.) The 2012 Spring Championship of Online Poker is coming to an end today as the Main Event(s) finishes up. The $109 buy-in had 22,128 players, the $1,050 Medium had $3,567, and the $10,300 buy-in had 517 players. Overall, the 2012 SCOOP was the largest online tournament series in poker history. With more than $65,000,000 in prizes, the 2012 SCOOP just beat out a previous high of $64,230,010.

.) There were some interesting results this past week in the 2012 SCOOP. FlopTurnRiver's own Ben "Sauce1234" Sulsky won the $21,000 heads-up championship for more than a quarter-million dollars. Fellow high-stakes professional Shaun Deeb won four different tournaments over a 10-day period on his way to the overall TLB victory.

.) Player Choice Satellites - PokerStars is giving players the choice to qualify for French, Eureka, and Estrella Poker Tour Events online. Players can enter generic satellites that hand out main event packages for any of the tournament series above. Finals run every Wednesday at 16:05 ET and can be bought-in directly for €215 or satellited into for as little as €2.22.

.) Recent Spanish Poker Legislation has forced sites to pay back-taxes in order to get licensed. For PokerStars, this could mean a massive sum. Some projections have exceeded a quarter billion dollars, which could put a hold on recent buyout talks between Stars and FullTilt Poker.
