    Default Pokerstars Admits Rigging

    Hey,
well it seems pokerstars finally admitted to rigging their hands.. should we trust wikipedia? maybe. But it's probably just something made up. Just read the section about it on wikipedia .(i can't post links, im a noob)thoughts? Personally I never noticed.. Probably because I don't play stars very often.

    Admission of Staged Hands
On May 23, 2009, PokerStars finally admitted what had been suspected by most players of online poker sites for some time: The hands played out on the site are not random, but are instead rigged to create the most dramatic wins and bigger pots. PokerStars officers stated they see nothing wrong with this policy, claiming that they are a "business, and like any business, we need to make a profit."

Legitimate, random poker does not offer the sort of action, in enough quantity, to constantly create the large pots and correspondingly larger rakes that online poker sites need to turn a profit. In the press release issued by PokerStars, the operating officers stated:

"Anyone who plays poker regularly knows that a high percentage of hands are folded, just aren't played. We can't operate a site that simply has a bunch of people sitting at a table folding all the time. We need to make money. So hands are engineered to create large amounts of betting, where we can collect a high rake. If we didn't do this, we wouldn't be able to operate at a profit."

Examples of these "engineered" hands are a much higher than normally probable percentage of hands which are won on the "river", or last card; higher than statistically probable instances of two or more people in the hand both having what looks to be the best hand, and subsequently betting big against each other; never giving someone the second-best possible hand without someone else having the best possible hand; etc. PokerStars also rewards highly aggressive betting, and will make sure that anyone playing aggressively, no matter with what cards, will catch the cards they need to win. According to the statement released by PokerStars: "We have a program that handles all of this."

When questioned as to why they are releasing this now, PokerStars responded, "It's been obvious from the start to anyone who plays for any length of time on the site. We've frankly gotten tired of having to defend it."

What a conspiracy, clearly pokerstars got their hand on wikepedia and paid them to delete it. Keep fighting the good fight OP! The Truth is out there...

If extra rake is their motive, they don't care who wins, why why rig the river?

    hoax FAIL.

I thought they still did this. From what I understand, they did not keep this a secret, but posted on thier web site that they were going to do this before it happened.

this is the part i find true, that they will give 2 hands out to creat a bigger rake, the part everyone has to look out for is the action hands, those where you find youself looking at it and wondering if you are being traped lol, its not like im going to quit playing just going to have to reconginze them a little better lol

I'm glad I coppied the article, because it wasn't up long. And it reads like a 5th grade Press release

I know Im kind of late...but do you have a copy of that article? Just wondering, did you copy and paste copy it or did you take a screenshot because that would be great. Those statements they made are enough to get them sued.

Money talks and PokerStars had there money talk to get that deleted and I have seen it happen on a few other wiki type sites about PokerStars, FullTilt and UltimateBet. I believe to a point.

WOW, thanks for posting this!!! Now if I could only recognize when I'm holding 2nd best? (if I've got KK... should I consider laying it down?... I mean wouldn't they typically be dealing out AA in this spot?).

tks rllngn you're either gonna save me alot of $'s with this info. (which I guess will be just like making me $'s).

    Default Truth Break

Why in the world would Pokerstars openly admit to such behavior, only to turn right around and have it "censored" off Wik? It doesn't make logical sense. I'll be the first to admit that, as a very decent and often winning Casino player of PLO8, I lose $$ at p-stars all the time just like everyone else I know. So I'm not debating the veracity or lack thereof regarding the allegations of rigging. But I AM saying that the veracity of the claim that Stars every made these statements in the first place is, at best, highly questionable. In other words, I think someone out there just made it up.

I wonder how many stupids would believe it if I updated the wiki page on Obama to say he was born in Scotland?

I'd hope that somewhere, someone was still talking about it three years later.

Hey if you had just lost your first $20 when you first became 18 yrs old after running over your friends at poker the last 5 years since high school started first thing you would search is "Rigged" right? Cause no way you suck at poker.

    Default Love life, love poker.

It all sounds like rubbish to be honest. Pokerstars would NEVER bother with such activity, they make more than enough money from all the players that play in their poker room day in, day out. They simply wouldn't risk losing their reputation by making those of kind of risky moves. The founders know that if they did such a thing, information can always leak from employees to the general public and thus damage their credibility forever. This simply would never happen, period.

I had not seen anything about this until I read this series of posts. I find it hard to believe that PS would get involved in any sort of rigging. They are a huge organisation making huge profits already so why would they put that at risk by getting into something that would surely backfire big time on them.
  29. #29
because in may 2009 when this post was made, people were morons and believed shit.

    Nice bump guys

There is no way that Pokerstars is rigged. People that win live then go online and lose are just facing better players online then they do while playing live poker. You can play a lot more hands online which makes the average low stakes online poker player better than the average low stakes live poker player.

Clearly it's rigged. I mean what more proof do you need than this:

You can see the randomizer working it magic. Its very obvious when the sitouts are running out of chips. You can go 6-8 hands in a row where the chip leader finishes taking out the people running out of chips. And they say its random.
  36. #36
Everyone knows pokerstars used to deal more red cards than black to keep people loyal to pokerstars and stop them switching to FTP. My question is if this will still happen now that both sites are owned by joe biden

Can't imagine I exist out there. Such a small fish in a big ocean.

Randomizer in action tonight. Was blinding out with low stack. Chip leader on table goes in, both cards get flipped. Chip leader has A 10 to low stack Q 10. Small stack pairs queens on the flop along with pairing ten on the flop. Chip leader pairs ten, also. Then on the river, Ace appears. So small stacks two pairs queens and tens loses to chip leaders two pairs, Aces and tens. Okay, so it was a 12% chance of an Ace hitting on the turn or river. Either way the kill switch was on.

Luckbox, I am a 5/2yo player, 4/2yo player was 10 years ago, lol.

I can't help wondering if QT had won the hand you'd be posting it as proof that stars is rigged .

So fishy bollocks allows his stack to get so small that he's forced to call all in with QT (either that or makes a terrible call with >10bb), gets lucky on the flop, then gets unlucky on the river.

    omg.

Personally, I think this is evidence that God hates you, more than rigged site.

Want to know what the saddest part of their FUCKING PATHETIC LAME ASS we need to make action happen excuse is? If you’ve ever played in one of their tourneys and made it anywhere..... eventually you have to put your money in because the BLINDS ARE TOO BIG. Eventually the blinds are going to take care of everybody anyway; and in due time. So their excuse means absolutely nothing. Somebody seriously ought to hurt these mother fuckers for real. Like physically, the courts are never going to rule against them. It’s like sports, they can just rig it cause fuck it it’s just entertainment. They’re going to get theirs someday, somebody oughta just blow their brains out.

The only reason you don’t beat the games is because it’s rigged against you specifically. For some reason, it’s rigged towards the smart players that are more experienced and put time into studying the game.

Increasing blinds and needing to gamble with a short stack is the definition of tournament poker. Play cash games if you don’t like that.

I guess this thread comes up in a google search for "pokerstars rigged". Or maybe it's a glitch and it comes up when people search "gay porn".
