    Question HM2 - New User

OK, so i'm thinking of moving from PokerOffice to HM2

i've got it on trial right now, and it does seem to be a sexy bit of kit, but i'm finding a few 'problems' straight away (e.g. HUD not working, hand import taking forever or crashing)

I've read the stickies here and the HM FAQs, but no joy, plus their support seems...well...un-sympathetic?

What is the general view of guys/gals who've used HM (1 or 2) for a while? I think the majority of regs here use it, so presumably it's worth sticking with?

    Input and advice appreciated!

    Cheers!

BTW - does anyone from HM monitor this thread?

Not problems per se - i checked out the FAQ and it said if this doesn't help, contact support with the answers to these questions, so i contacted support, said "i've checked out the FAQ and it didn't help; here're the answers to the questions", and i got a message back saying "check out the FAQ and if it doesn't help, contact support with the answers to these questions."

I've always really liked HEM, but have not upgraded to HM2 properly because it was really buggy when I tried it. Maybe some other people who have used HM2 more recently can comment further, but it still seems to be buggy judging from the comments posted on their website.

There are still some significant bugs in the software. I've posted some of these in the bugs forum and no one has answered those threads in 3 days. I've kind of given up and it will be the last time I post in the bugs forum.

IMO wait for PT4 to become available and see what it offers before you commit.

    Aspects I don't like

    - The program interface is slow on an i-5 8GB system
    - The HUD flashes when I play on PS
    - There are .Net crashes frequently
    - The HUD seems to forget I have stats against players I know I have >1000 hands
    - Some filters like the tourney BI still don't work (My friend who plays HU says many of the hand strength filters don't work)
    - The layout in the filters menu box (specific the 'add' and the 'remove' are separated, which makes absolutely no sense).
    - Hyper turbos are imported incorrectly half the time as reg speeds
    - Loading hands is very slow on startup, which means the HUD takes a long time to come up on the tables.
    - Many small bugs, like if you already have the today filter set, it doesn't filter for the current day even if you click 'refresh' until you select another date, 'refresh' and go back to the 'today' filter.

Other than that check the HM2 bug thread.

    Things I like

    - The new stats
    - The new HUD feel is awesome
    - I like the look of the program
    - It's much more efficient at dealing with large aliases, making opponent analysis easier
    - The replayer is an improvement but Universal Replayer is still a winner for me
    - Hand importing is much faster.

I can understand if your time is limited so we could do a quick teamviewer sessions to go through things and i can give you the bug numbers so you can followup on them, we should be able to deal with your issues promptly and i do apologise that yor post was not answered, we answer several hundred forum posts/emails a day so occasionally some skip through the cracks but if you let me know your username or link to the post then i will investigate why your post was overlooked and have someone reply asap to your post.

    FWIW

The program interface is slow on an i-5 8GB system
i got E7500 and 3Gb, and for the most part HM2 runs OK. it does throw a wobbly every now and then, tho

The HUD flashes when I play on PS
I play 4 tables on 'Stars, and the HUD perf. is OK w/ that

    There are .Net crashes frequently
2 in 7 days, so Yes to that one

Loading hands is very slow on startup, which means the HUD takes a long time to come up on the tables.
I play cash, so i'm usually sitting out the first few hands; it's possible i haven't noticed this.
I do frequently get vestigial data in HUD, tho, and over the wrong seats before it settles down.

if you already have the today filter set, it doesn't filter for the current day even if you click 'refresh' until you select another date, 'refresh' and go back to the 'today' filter.
Yes, seen a fair bit of that kind of thing

Other minor niggle is that HM2 can't do intra-hand HUD updates (e.g. Pot Odds and Opponent Line Taken) from HH file. The solution to read this from the chat-box is very Mickey-Mouse.

And just to make things extra peachy, for the 2nd time in a week, HM2 has decided that it can't find the PostgreSQL database.

But...lots of things i DO like so far, in particular Note Caddy

    @double Jay

    Hi,

I am Marco from holdem manager support.

If you are having .net issues please

    Reinstall Microsoft .NET Framework:

    1) Download and run this uninstaller - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloa...eanup_tool.zip
    2) Install this one: http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...dotnetfx35.exe

If your HUD is flashing please go to Hud options > config properties > tick force on top.

If your HUD is showing up on the wrong seats, please see this FAQ
Hold'Em Manager 2 FAQs - Poker Software :: HUD Options / Seating Preferences

I am not exactly sure what you mean here. Do you think you could illustrate the issue with some screenshots?

"Other minor niggle is that HM2 can't do intra-hand HUD updates (e.g. Pot Odds and Opponent Line Taken) from HH file. The solution to read this from the chat-box is very Mickey-Mouse."

If HM2 is Crashing: we will need your holdemmanager.log file.

    It is located at

    Windows 7: C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\HoldemManager\

    Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\User_name\Application Data\HoldemManager

If you cannot find it you may have to show your hidden files:

Windows 7: How to show hidden files in Windows 7

    Win XP: Microsoft Corporation

Finally, please make sure you are running as administrator on your computer. Also please let us know what security software (anti-virus/firewall) you are using. Below are directions for making sure you are running as administrator.

Vista: FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Turning Off UAC (Vista)

Win 7: FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Turning Off UAC (Windows 7)

Turning off Administrator: FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Run .exe Files As Administrator (Windows 7 & Vista)

If you have any additional questions, please email us directly at [email protected] with a link to this thread, and we will help you.

    Regards,

    Marco

Hi Marco - thanks for getting back to me

Re: HM crashes - i am in conversation w/ Chris B; he has the logs. FYI - crashes seem to occur whilst HM is "Creating Notes". I have ~2m hands in my db, and have had to reload them several time over the past few weeks, meaning that HM then sets about trying to create ~2m notes (which takes about 24 hours). It seems to run out of memory during this process.

Re: Seating Prefs - I have this set, and once a table is under way, the HUD places correctly. However, for the first few hands, it seems to try and use the seating/player stats left over from before i join the table. I'll try and send some screen shots of this.

Re: Intra-hand updates - as i understand it the HM HUD only updates from the HH file on completion of a hand. This means that it cannot get opponent line info or calculate pot odds DURING the hand.

The solution i have seen offered to this ("Live Tracking") works by reading the required data from the on-table chat box, which is non-robust (i.e. will fail if the chat box becomes obscured or is detached from the table. It will not work at all if tables are cascaded/overlapped). Other tracking s/ware can do intra-hand HH reads; why doesn't HM2?

    Cheers!

I've been using HEM2, which just became available on WPN, for a few weeks now. It's phenomenal. Just an invaluable tool out on the felt.
