    5. Ray Bitar pleads guilty

This week Ray Bitar, the former CEO of Full Tilt Poker, pleaded guilty to criminal charges brought against him concerning what poker players have dubbed "Black Friday." According to the preliminary verdict Bitar will be able to avoid prison, but he will have to forfeit nearly $40 million in assets.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Ray's lawyer said that his client is suffering from serious health problems and needed a heart transplant. This also played a role in the decision to not sentence Bitar to prison time.

After the events of "Black Friday", Full Tilt Poker has been acquired by the same company that operates PokerStars, which returned all money owed to players worldwide, except for the US where the process was handed over to the DOJ.

“The driving factor in this sentence is Mr. Bitar’s precarious health condition,” Judge Preska said. “The Federal Bureau of Prisons is not able to provide the care that Mr. Bitar needs. Prison almost undoubtedly would kill him. The possibility of prison would make Mr. Bitar ineligible for a heart transplant, which would also impose a death sentence.”
