Default Gauntlet X - The Return!

Gauntlet Season X - Official Thread

The Gauntlet will return in October - are you ready?

    Here are the details!

The season will run over 10 weeks with one game every Sunday at 2.30pm ET (7.30pm WET). The season will start on Sunday 7th of October and end on 9th of December.

All games will be played on Pokerstars Home Games, so Americans can join in too! All games will be free-to-play, although members are welcome to set up side bets privately (FTR will take no responsibility so we'd advise using a respected escrow). Side bets thread: here

This season will feature only No Limit Hold'em games. Points will be given according to the traditional Gauntlet scoring system, which can be found here and your top 8 out of 10 scores will count:

    Points Distribution

Play all 10 games and receive 30 bonus points!

To spice things up, FTR will be adding cash prizes! The winner will receive $120, 2nd place $60 and 3rd will get a t-shirt.

The Tournament of Champions will also return, as well as other bonus prizes including a contest for everyone who plays at least 7 of the 10 games!

    Application Thread

    Cliffs

    - Pokerstars Home Game (US friendly)
    - Free to play with added prizes!
    - 10 weeks from Sunday 7th October to Sunday 9th December
    - 1 game a week, every Sunday 2.30pm ET (7.30pm WET)
    - No Limit Hold'em only
    - Points given for each game, top 8/10 scores count - most points wins!
    - Play 10 of 10 games, get 30 points

Can there be some clause were we can miss a couple games and not be punished for it? Like can we make it best 8 out of 10 or something? Or at least best 9?

I'd rather not do that because it's only 10 weeks, I doubt every player is going to be able to play every game anyway and I don't want people not playing the last 2 games because they'd rather keep the fields smaller so other people can't get as many points.

Maybe I am missing something here, but what is to stop every freetroller in the universe from playing in these games for a free $120?

Maybe I am ignorant to how this works.

And what exactly is FTR - where do you draw the line? Active posters? Posters with over 100 posts? A community vote? Anyone with an FTR account?

EDIT: Regardless of what is set, freetrollers won't be allowed in, don't worry!

I would guess it depends on the goal of the gauntlet. Ask yourself the point of having a Gauntlet and the answers would be clear

It's clear that regulars will be turned off any league that is inundated with freetrollers. So yeah, we have to do something about it.

    Are you gonna play, jyms?

    ya I'd like to

Pascal, in answer to your PM...I think you need to organize a thread. Have people make requests to join. We can see when they registered, how often they post, and maybe a couple mods could decide.

We can't see who registers to the homegame club but we can edit the group from here

Will their be late reg? 8pm is a bit tight for me due to kids bedtime routine. Little buggers should be fast asleep by then but doesn't always work like that.

I think it's 1 level of late registration in home games which would be 10 or 15 minutes

we want to bring in new members and have our current members become more acquainted with each other. so there is room for both here.

not all new members are freetrollers, even the steinberg's and sauce were new members at one point.

that being said, we're going to be monitoring this closely. if we notice certain players that are here solely for the cash, we can and will revoke their access. this is fun for our community.

After some discussion I think we're going to set a limit of 35 posts to play. If you have over 10 but less than 35 posts then you can apply and we'll consider your application and let you in if we think you genuinely want to be part of FTR and aren't a freetroller. We'll also reserve the right to remove players from the group who we believe are freetrollers.

Post count dates will be taken as of 28th September.

I have a friend that does not post on the forums that would like to play mainly for side bets and lulz. Can he play if I vouch for him?

He's a mid to high stakes player that pretty much has nothing to gain from posting on strat forums, so there is no way he is going to post just to play in Gauntlet. There's a much better chance of him posting once he has played in the Gauntlet if he decides he likes the community rather than the other way around.

@Pascal - the link to the scoring system seems to be busted

also - the prizes statement is a bit ambiguous - do you mean $120 to the winner of each Tourney, or to the winner of the whole Gaunt-o-lette?

The winner of the Gauntlet gets $120. The link to the points system works for me?

    http://www.flopturnriver.com/poker-l...stribution.php

Although I will have it changed as obviously the buyin for all of these events will be 0 so the example is a bit misleading.

Weird. I re-installed Stars on my laptop and found some homegame clubs that I'm a member of that I can honestly say I have no clue what they are. Does Stars just add you on some games automatically?

Or did someone hack my account to steal my playmonies?

Supa, they are just adverts for popular clubs by Stars.

Seven-deuce, there will be a membership group for Gauntlet applications which will open soon and then we'll PM you the details to make sure that we keep it to just FTR. Keep your eyes on this thread over the next few days

Based on feedback we've decided to change the rules slightly - only the top 8 out of 10 games will count So no problem if you have to miss a couple of weeks! If you do play all 10 games, you'll get a bonus 10 points!

Gauntlet starts this Sunday and the Home Game group currently has 25 members!

We did some tinkering with some behind-the-scenes stuff meaning we've had to change the bonus points from 10 to 30 - they are worth the same relatively though as the points given for finishing places have been tripled.

    Hi NstaBink,

Unfortunately the Gauntlet is no longer taking place. In fact, this Season X thread had been inactive for nearly two years until you came across it in a search engine query.

However, we have plenty of ongoing promotions for active contributing members, so hopefully we'll see you around here on the boards frequently in upcoming months and will be able to participate together in some of our exclusive events.

To participate in more recent threads, your best best is to browse each forum or to click the "New Posts" link located at the top-left of forum pages (below the drop-down menus).

Best of luck at the tables!
