    I am Queens Blvd.
Whatever happened to the old days where I posted a dumb thread, spenda called me a fucking moron for posting it and explained why I was retarded, and I learned from it. Sure, people have internet dicks but it's the fucking internet. Deal with being called a retard and learn to learn from all the hostility.
That's how winners play; we convince the other guy he's making all the right moves.

Well basically bikes was on the fence, but when you posted this:

I take great pride in it!

But seriously, I doubt bikes ever does something bikes doesn't wanna do and can't see anything I say making that much difference. Besides which, the bigger issue is what put him and the others in the position they were in.

it may surprise some people, but i voted for quality

sideline - in response to various posts in the thread rather than the hypothetical situation presented by d0zer in his opening post

i'm all for people being able to be thick skinned when advice is given on a poker forum, but i also laugh at the hypocrisy shown by people giving quality advice in an offensive manner when they later get all 'poor me, my post was deleted, world is out to get me, i'm going to sulk' from time to time.

i'm opposed to vitriolic personal abuse in strat posts in general, but particularly when the post isn't accompanied by any strat advice that may give the post some value.

i'd vote quality for sure, but i have no financial stake in more newbies being attracted to/staying around the forums, and a small financial stake in being told good things about poker (not that i've played much in the last year). and i should say, despite this vote, i really cannot understand the attitude of "i'm better at poker than these people, therefore i do not have to be remotely courteous or friendly to them" (or those who religiously defend people adopting this attitude because they are good at poker), which seems to have been adopted by some participants of this forum at different times.

and yes i realise that posting good strategy on a public forum has a -EV for the poster. but how did most of the better players get anywhere near as good as they currently are at poker if not for other experienced players posting -EV answers to the dumb questions they had when they started out playing? it's a poker "community" right?

it's a shame that the three of you are ceasing posting on FTR, although obviously it's a decision any person is free to make.

Hope happiness comes back. Re the backstory, probably not any business of anyone who doesn't know it already. Re strat posting and -EV, hard to argue on that front obviously.

glad to hear it. Hope you all end up back here posting sometime. Until then, best of luck with stuff

@ m2m, tried to send you a pm but didn't work. I'll figure it out once i'm not in a dodgy internet spot in s.e. asia.
I read via bikes' post that you won't be around on FTR much for an indefinite while. That's our (FTR community) loss. I respect and appreciate your activity and approach to this community over the while we've both been part of it.
best of luck with all things life and poker

I had no idea about any of this until jyms linked the thread. So I'll just leave a general comment

The issue is that things like post deletions and infractions for regularly valued posters is the wrong way to go. The internet mod culture seems to think that the bottom line is if you break a rule, you can be punished, but this creates a problem because the act of punishment pisses people the fuck off. It would simply work better to be much more subtle about it work towards nurturing a culture of moderate behavior instead of laying down the hammer. Something as simple as a mod not deleting a "bad" post and instead just saying "Dude that was kinda mean. Excellent analysis though..." would go a long way. It gives the poster the opportunity to realize "Yeah that was kinda mean, I've had a bad day, etc..." instead of getting super pissed that somebody deleted something he created then told him he has to change.

Moderators are mediums who negotiate sensibilities; the internet has never actually realized this and instead thinks that moderators are people who enforce the rules

Let's just make Wuf a moderator. That way, he can modkill everyone on the forums that doesn't post within 24 hours, whether they are at the hospital or not.
