Default Xbox 360 red ring of death

Goddamnit, it happened to me. Basically, here's what happened. I'm playing my friend in madden, I throw a pick, he starts yelling and jumping up and down kind of shaking the ground (mind you, he's 10 feet away), and the system freezes. I tried all the basic stuff, general cleaning, unplugging, and always get the red ring now. I can't play anything.

I was just on microsoft's page and registered my xbox.. apparantly my warranty expired over a year ago. Their site is sadly void of any useful information on how to fix this.

What's the game plan? I'd like to get this fixed bc I have a lot of awesome 360 games, but after that I think I'm done with non-PC microsoft products.

I think xbox extended everyone's warranty for the exact problem of the red ring of death. I could be wrong but my original warranty expired, got the red ring of death, called them and were like ok cool you still have awhile on your warranty so you are good (they must have automatically extended it). That said, it took a dozen attempts and 8 months for my them to actually send me back a working xbox 360. I got a lot of free shit out of it though.

You should have no problem getting Microsoft to take care of it. My brother bought and old used one and had no purchase info. He called them and told them what happened and they said a box would arrive at his house in a few days and he could send it to them in that. It didn't take insanely long either for it to come back.

Also, if all else fails. Buy a new one from Superstore or where ever. Then switch the xbox's serial numbers and return the broken one saying it's broken and you've heard about such things and this incident was enough to turn you off buying future xbox's so you just want your money back.

    Walmart.

As long as you have a box, walmart has a no questions asked policy.

Did you purchase your x-box here? Put on your best bluffin' face and say "Yes". But I don't have my receipt.

Bring back everything that was in the original box, and they'll take it back and give you a new one.

I paid the extra $10 for the walmart warranty, just so I could get them to swap it out same day for a brand new console if I ever needed to.

Call 1-800-4-my-xbox. There's a 3 year warranty on all 360s. Just call them, give them your serial number and they'll send you a box to mail them your console and you'll eventually get a new one. Took about 3 weeks for me.
