    pvp or normal?
pick a server without many people right?
i hear alliance has a lot more people, is it still ok to be horde or am i gonna be screwed over?
any other tips, on what class to be/not to be, or whatever?
i betcha that i got something you ain't got, that's called courage, it don't come from no liquor bottle, it ain't scotch

    horde/alliance doesnt matter

start characters with a few different classes and go through a few levels just to see which ones you like

Pick a pvp server... they're a LOT more fun (imo) than a normal or pve server. I had a couple of alliance characters but I highly enjoyed horde a lot more.... The quests and environment just appealed to me more... plus there are PLENTY of people; you don't need to worry about not enough people. I think you should try to pick the newest server available, always a lot more fun when there are more people your level rather than 1,000 level 60s running around.

For a class, it depends on what you feel like doing. You can do what Gabe suggested, but you really don't get into what the class is actually capable of until level 30+ and can complete their skill tree at lvl 40. I have been every class and my favorite was a priest, you can do a LOT of dmg plus you can heal yourself and others... so it is always easier to find a group if need be.

Basically just test some things out and have fun... the game will rule your life.

An epic'd out female priest. I wonder if she has a hard time finding a party.

edit: holy tree too, nice. The 300/300 tailoring/enchanting also has me slightly jealous.

join a server that your friends play on. you'll get into it more easily that way. you can request a transfer later but it costs you.

so do most of you do pvp? that's my biggest question. If we do PvP will we be able to level without being hassled if we want to. Obviously there'd be more fighting, but i mean say we want to concentrate on leveliing for a week, could we do that without people fighting us all the time?

my friend already said he wants to be a priest, another friend wants to be a hunter. i'm still thinking it over. i know we're gonna need a tank but i don't especially want to be a warrior. is a priest the one that does the big damage like a wizard, AND they heal a lot?

If a priest is shadow speced (usually are until level 60) they can do big damage and heal, yes. If you don't want to be a warrior and want to be something different than your friends I suggest a Warlock. They're great for leveling because you can summon a pet to help you. Plus they have a lot of high damage magic spells and you can get a tank for a pet.

Being on a pvp server isn't too bad, there are certain areas (lower level areas) that higher level alliance can't attack you. But once you start getting into the contested areas it might get a little annoying to get pwned every now and then. But I just enjoy pvp more.

I prefer PVE servers because I can turn on PVP when I want to and don't have to fear everybody to DOT death when I don't feel like it.

if you want to tank but aren't sure which character to play, druids can tank and heal so they're usually a nice add to an instance run because they just change clothes and bam. a druid can fit into so many groups and are actually a good intro to a bunch of class types for the beginning player.
