yes it does take time away.. but thats not a bad thing.. its no different to say, meeting a new girl and hanging out with her alot

Except when you're mired in a bad streak.
In an upswing-- hell yea, why wouldn't you play poker?
But when I'm in a downswing, it just makes me wonder. This week I thought to myself, "Hmm, I just knocked about 15 hours off my life sitting on my ass in front of the computer and and addition to that got to pay 100BB for the privilage!"

in a few years i'm going to be going through a downswing.. and i shall say.. "damn it, i just knocked 15 hours off my life playing poker, and i lost money... but hey, i'm 20, i do nothing but play cards and music, and i live off other peoples hard earned money"

sounds so immoral.. like i'm training myself up to be a con man my whole life.. hahah.. too bad, "its immoral to let a sucker keep his money"

I am a musician/composer. also work for a catering company, and yes I have also found that poker takes my creative energy at times, but I cant stop playing!! bad poker! bad ! bad ! bad!

i use it to enhance my creative energy.. when playing seriously i keep firm control over my psyche, not allowing myself to tilt.. but on occasion i deliberately let myself get really worked up over "that fuckwit that called AI with a gutshot and rivered my top set".. getting so annoyed about it that i simply can not play poker because it makes me feel sick, and from there the only thing that i can do to take my mind off poker is to play music... i go sit at the piano and just play whatever comes out.. and often i get something decent because alot of emotional energy goes into it.. i dont know how well that would work for other musos, as our creativity comes from different places, but hey.. one day poker might inspire a whole symphony for me...

poker can be such an emotional ride, with the anticipation of the coming cards, making tough decisions etc. etc. you know how it is.. particularly NL with the very sudden changes, the way everything can be going right and it can be turned around on you in a split second cos some guy hits his 1:989 (?) running quads, and all of a sudden you go from happy to wanting to punch the guy square in the face... man i wish it wasnt past midnight, i want to go compose something...
