    Default top 50 greatest games

I had loads of fun reading this, not sure I agree with all of it, but it was fun to reminisce.
I'm sure fellow geeks will enjoy disagreeing with it too

Nope, this guy basically wrote a very biased, "his top 50" games list which is fine when it's in your own blog...but on msnbc.com? It's laughable.

Ughhhhhhhhh, that list was absolutely atrocious.
Both of the following lists are far closer to what it should be, especially the IGN reader's choice. THANK GOD for the nods to games like Chrono Trigger, super mario RPG, and smash bros.
    EGM Top 100
    IGN Top 100 Games 2008 | 100 ESPN NFL 2K5

Sadly these are all console so still no SC or WC or dare I say.. Diablo?!, but overall WAYYYY better

If I had to make a list it would be:

    Frogger
    Monkey Island I, II
Leisure Suite Larry I and 7
Phantasmagoria - prolly not replayable 20 years later, but it scared me to death as a child.
Quarantine - prolly the buggiest game of all times, but great soundtrack and atmosphere. I loved it. - downloadable for free now, unfortunately without the soundtrack.
    Warcraft
    Duke Nuke'em obviously
Castle Wolfenstein. - Not so amazing now but it scared the shit out of me when I was 9 :=)
    Rebel Assault
    Quake Arena
    Silent Hill
    Max Payne
Nexuiz I loved it when they still allowed keyhunt mode to be played on all maps, including lots of UT and QuakeIII maps. Now I only play instagib every now and then.
    GTA Vice City
Halflive - all parts, including Portal: can't wait for them to realease the next part... The original should still be free to download from steam... of Portal that is.
and more recently left4dead - best co-op game of all times imo. Wasted more than 300h of my life on this
and Battlefield BC2. I think I'll be playing this for a long time.

Mario Kart...and the number one game was the super nintendo version in that list. I like all the super mario kart games. I play a lot of the wii version when I'm home with the family.

This top 50 list is based on votes from readers of the page. It's not decided by one guy.

I never liked Metroid but I'm shocked it wasn't even on the list. I also hadn't even heard of two of the games in the top 10.

It's msn.uk. That's why there are 3 soccer games (including Championship Manager, which is awesome and so often overlooked) and no 'merkin football.

That said, not sure why there is nothing from the C&C or Civ series. Ghey.

Goldeneye and final fantasy 8 should be #1 and #2 IMO.
Gotta have love for streets of rage, golden axe and shinobi on the mega drive.

Tecmo Superbowl, oh god how my friends and I loved that game. It came out in 1991 and we were still playing it religiously as seniors in high school in 1998. We even got back together a few times a year to play during college.....fun times.

Daggerfall was better than both imo. I played that game constantly. Also, I'm sure there is like only 1 other person that knows about Asheron's Call (PC) on FTR, but it is most def one of the best games ever (mmorpg though).

mariokart 64 was ok but was a slight disappointment after the super nintendo version. The Wii version is by far the worst though. I think I played it 3 times since buying it.

I thought Wii's were for people who were crap at real computer games, you know, there was always a few kids who you'd just hammer in any game you played who just didn't have the dexterity or... I dunno, non gamers I guess, and girls.

odd that my favourite 2 games are from the N64
Goldeneye - easily the best for me
    Zelda - ocarina of time

GTA, final fantasy, COD 2 etcall have to be up there but goldeneye especially has no equal IMO

You'd play it a lot more if you have friends who are competitive. The drunker you get the more fun it gets too.

Having wimmenz over at your house will help you play it more too.
  41. #41
Yea, Raving Rabbids and any Mario game is good for the Wii when with a small group. I just soft modded mine last week and now download .iso files to an HDD for it. No more cash money for Mario Galaxy.

FWIW, that list sucks ass. There are so many ways to go with a list and this inot one of them. There has to be 100 games that could be top 20 on any respected list that he missed completely.

    No Half-Life. List is invalid.
The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which unskilled individuals suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly rating their ability much higher than average. This bias is attributed to a metacognitive inability of the unskilled to recognize their mistakes

well FUCK...just so you know our recent money exchange was for the sole purpose of buying the Wii version Mario Kart + some wheels. fml.

But thanks JL I have hope!

I'm sure my gf will at least pretend to like it regardless.

Never played the other versions and the Wii version rocks. I wasn't a big Mario fan after the Super Nintendo days. Galaxy and Galaxy 2 have brought me back to the Nintendo. Plus my GH3 was Wii, so now I am downloading all of them to the Wii. GHMetallica is pretty good.

LOL ... I feel like a jerk now, but that's so funny!

You'll probably like it. I just didn't like it because Super Nintendo has a special place in my heart!

To make up for my Mario Kart insults, I'll do another transfer?

I would have to work out the order but maybe my top 10 list. Some due to innovation rather than just being fun. Weirdly theres not any XBOX 360/ PS3 games
    EverQuest (PC)
    Legend of Zelda (NES)
    Quake 3 (PC)
    Ultimate Doom (PC)
    Final Fantasy 7 (PS1)
    Socom 2 (PS1)
    Counter-Strike (PC)
    GTA 3 (PS2)
    Halo 2 (XBOX)
    Perfect Dark (N64)

You can wait for portal 2 if you want.
But I highly recommend playing the old one. If your computer can't handle it, I'm surprised you can view this website.
But srzly, it can handle it.

    Dear Subject Name Here,

Aperture Science is pleased to inform you that we have partnered with Valve to announce the gala CANCELLATION of the June 14 Portal 2 event at the Regal Theater. The event will be replaced by a surprise. And even though the cancellation of the event certainly counts as a surprise, we are pleased to further announce that the cancellation of the event is not THE surprise. However, per International treaties regarding the definition of the word "surprise", of which both Aperture Science and Valve are signatories, the time, date and content of the actual surprise will only become available as you experience the surprise.

If you'd like to ask fruitless questions about the E3 Portal 2 surprise or, more fruitfully, schedule an appointment to attend a Portal 2 screening at the Valve booth during E3, please contact Valve's Special Envoy to Surprises, Doug Lombardi.

    Thank you for [[RECORD SCRATCH!!!]]

PS: The surprising record scratch is also not the surprise.

I'm still playing this game nearly everyday since I got my Snes of ebay about 2months ago.

I can beat it on hard no probs without losing a round with Ryu/Ken and Guile.

Haven't beaten it perfect every round. Yet.
