Default Support at make a living at home country

    Hello, dear pokernauts!

I come to you with the hope that you can offer some support in a great endevour I have in front of me.

So lets go straight at it.
I live in a country where poker online as to much strict laws not allowing me to play in the sites that offer better deals and with a good enough player pool. So for what I know I have two options: leave my country or use a vpn. I searched a lot about the use of vpn for poker online and i didnt found something that really assured that it was safe so i started to look for countries where i could move to. The thing is that i have 2 little children and of course i dont want to leave them even if it is "only" for 2 years, that is the maximum i think i would stay abroad.

Given this, I want to give it a try again to the use of vpn or something else that works to be able to stay in my country close to my children.

So, can you give me some kind of support about this. Telling me trough here or personal message what you know through experience that works or doesnt work?

If you know something or someone that can give some support on this, please let me know. I can even offer you some percentage of my winnings for a while as a sign of gratitude.

    Thanks in advance!

    wtf?

You would move away from your children, not even to legally play poker, but just to get better deals and play vs weaker players?

You're in Portugal (mods can see IP). You have pokerstars. Granted, it's not the best in terms of deals and player pool. However, you also have Ladbrokes and Paddy Power, these two are British High Street betting shops and as such should have very weak player pools. I recall Ladbrokes being soft, at least.

A VPN, it's a minefield and you should be careful. For a start, you would need to research which VPN will do the job. Not all of them will, so you're probably going to have to pay for a decent VPN. Then you'll have the problem of banking. If you have a legal right to a bank account in a suitable nation, perhaps the UK or Holland, and an address in that country, then you won't need to commit fraud in order to fire up funds and cash out any winnings.

If I were you, I would focus on my family. If poker is a hobby, then pokerstars is just fine. If it's an income, if it's really that important to you and moving to another site is worth a lot of money, then move with your family to somewhere more suitable. You're an EU citizen, your options are plentiful.

In fact merely having a legal right to live and bank in a suitable country isn't enough. You'd also need govt ID. So if you're faking it, you'll need to photoshop a driver's license or something.

Dodgy ground. Even more so if you lie to a bank.

If the laws where you live persecute you for seeking an honest living, then moving your family away from that tyranny may be your primary concern.
If you choose to stay, because life is more complicated that such a simple proscription, then you kinda owe it to your family to not risk personal incarceration or other legal hardships.

Consider the EV to your family if you leave the country for 2 years or are imprisoned or have to pay a large monetary fine (I have no idea what the consequences are to you for breaking this law).

If you still decide to break the law to play poker, then I wish you the best of luck, but I will have no part in contributing to the illegal aspects of this endeavor.

Portugal is pretty liberal. Their cannabis laws are much more relaxed than ours. And he can play poker... he's just limited to a select few sites due to their gaming regulations.

Thinking about it, I'm not sure where he can move to where the poker regulations are more relaxed. Here in the UK is the prime place, but it's not so simple as moving to Spain. Plus the UK is shit compared to Portugal.

If I were OP, I'd stay at home close to family and work with the poker rooms available to me.

The criminal aspect is using fake ID to get banking in order to cash out winnings from sites that think you're in another country. It's fraud. I wouldn't worry about breaking gaming regulations... not from an end user pov. I'd be very surprised if Portugal treated people who use a VPN to circumvent poker regulations as criminals. They're not USA.
