I'm sure I'll be snowboarding at some point. Should probably do a whistler trip, haven't been there in a couple of years.

out last week already. was goot.

Early snowfall this year which has surprisingly held. My backyard 'run' ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mS-7QZgon5c ) is already rideable far earlier than usual this year

yep a 2 hour drive from the best ski resort in North America is quite nice!

They just built a peak to peak gondola which is probably pretty sick.

I'm going to Brekenridge at some point this year. My wife has a friend that has a ski-in/ski-out condo that we usually go to every year, this year plans fell through so that sucks......nevertheless, we're planning on going in Jan/Feb/March sometime. Jan/Feb I have two four-day weekends to choose from, in March I have Spring Break so we'll get it done.

    Skiing is awesome.

skis (I've never done the board before, I've just heard skis are easier to learn), and do ski-school. my wife made me go the first time we went skiing even though I hated the idea.....probably the best $50 I've ever spent, because by the end of that trip I was skiing blacks. It's just a hard thing to figure out by yourself, so go to school. they teach you the basics and then you let your athleticism take you from there.

awesome george, if I were to go skiing in US I would go to Breck, it's sick high too so snow guaranteed, which is sometimes a problem in lowish Alpine resorts like Kitsbuhel. I knew someone when I was working in the Alps who had been working in Breck for half the season, he managed to get through half of the american girls out there. must have been the english accent lol.

Daddydeez- pleeze do skiing. There is way less scope for boarding in terms of development, plus it's so 90's IMO.

its looking good for december as theres a ton of snow in Europe ATM, I'm off to Les Deux Alpes on the 20th.

iive heard good things about whistler, I want to go there too, theres so many places in North America I want to go but since I'd be coming from England it would be a problem going for just a week.

Is Park City near Lake Tahoe?

I'm going to try and go again sometime this season, I have friends working in around 3 different resorts. The ultimate resort I want to go to is St Anton, meant to be one of the sickest resorts in the world for experts and has awesome nightlife.

Anyone skied Corbett's in Jackson Hole? LOL

i´ve been riding our hometracks couple of times, but so far the snow isnt all that great. depending on how uni/internships will be scheduled next year i may go to portes du soleil for two weeks in march.

It's the biggest ski resort, agreed. I would argue the best ones are in Utah snow-wise. I've never seen snow fall and snow texture like Park City which is why we're going back there this year.

I went to Big Sky once. I shattered my tail bone going off a cliff and landing in rocks. The snow cover there was awful. I don't plan on going back.

Learn skiing if you want something quick and easy. It will still be hard to learn but not as painful as learning to snowboard. Learning to snowboard will require a ton of falling while learning to stay on edges, etc.

One note: If you're going to do a ton of powder skiing you might want to think about boarding. Since boards only have a single/wide base (as opposed to two skiis) it floats over powder better and doesn't get caught. Many beginning skiiers will have the problem of one ski going one way in the powder and the other going the opposite way instapulling their groin. Plus, when learning to snowboard you're going to fall a ton. It won't hurt if you're in powder!

I've always told people that skiing is easier to become a beginner at and harder to become an expert while snowboarding is harder to be a beginner and easier to become an expert

generally it's true, and both are fun as shit so not that big of a decision imo

I've always skied and try to get 1-2 ski trips in a year, but usually it's to New Mexico cause the drive takes forever. This year I have no obligations till Dec 15-Jan 19th and am planning to spend around 2 weeks at Taos, maybe some Angelfire/Red River and at least one trip to Wolf Creek in CO.

I'm excited, and hoping I'll have time to get good w/ deep moguls cause I've always been not very good w/ them. Anybody that's good with moguls- any tips on learning? Should I get a coach for a day to teach tricks?

and also, my "get ready for skiing" work out is gonna start today hopefully since I've been slacking like hell the last bunch of months

I agree with your description of skiing and snowboarding, Tom. It's what I tell everyone as well.

Personally, I stopped doing tricks when I cracked a snowboard in half on a front flip and proceeded to destroy my knees while over rotating on barrel rolls. I stay away from terrain parks and like to pursue good glade/back country stuff.

I don't know what utah's like cause I've never been but If you know your way around whistler you can always go into one of the bowls at the very top. The snow up there is usually pretty much perfect.

Yeah. I think the problem is I was at Whistler in Jan and their prime time isn't until March due to the ocean effect.

You have to go to Utah though. The snowfall is ridiculous. 3 feet of powder in a few days is not uncommon.

lol, ive been having an argument on a skiing forum with some old school pistenjaegers about the 'correct' way of carrying skis.. how do you guys do it?
  23. #23
Whistler/Blackcomb is by far the best mountain I've ever been to. Especially sick if you ride with someone who knows the spots and can show you some good powder runs/backcountry. I've never tried any mountains outside of B.C., but the ones within the province I've tried have all been sick minus the local Vancouver ones.

Gotta give some U.S. spots a shot by the sounds of it though...
