    Default Simon Trumper AMA

We're excited to announce an upcoming AMA with Simon Trumper on the 4th of May at 9pm BST (4pm EST).

His name will be instantly recognisable to nearly any British poker player. He's Live Poker Director at Dusk Till Dawn in Nottingham (Europe's largest Poker Club with 45 tables seating 450).

He's also now involved in the International Stadiums Poker Tour 2013 as Tournament Director. The ISPT is a mix of online and live poker that has €1,000,000 guaranteed and the Main Event will be played on the pitch at Wembley Stadium on 31st May - 5th June.

Simon will be answering questions about himself, Dusk Till Dawn, the International Stadiums Poker Tour, live poker or anything else you want to ask him!

    Hi Simon,

Thanks for coming over to FTR to answer our questions. I have a few for you:

1.) How many of the original ISPT operations people are still involved in the running of the Wembley Event?
2.) Do you expect the €1,000,000 guaranteed 1st place to be covered, or are you expecting an overlay?
3.) Why did Dusk till Dawn get involved with the ISPT? Who started the conversation?
4.)When will the side game schedule be released?

    Hi Simon!

I'm a big fan of DTD, only played there a couple of times but I was extremely impressed and if I lived nearer and/or liked live poker I would visit a lot. Few questions for you:

    1. Given the problems with ISPT before DTD came on board, do you feel that becoming involved and giving ISPT credibility is a better idea than letting it crash and burn and setting an example that bad business practices should not be tolerated?

    2. What is your favourite memory from your time at DTD?

    3. What do you think the future of live poker holds? Will NLHE stay the game of choice, will tournaments have to adapt/evolve, etc?

    4. Any exclusive DTD news for us?

    Hello,

The EU's Culture Commission approved the new regulation on online gambling.

How do you see this impacting the industry?
Do you agree with the new rules?

Hi Simon, thanks for doing this and I've enjoyed watching you on Late Night Poker over the years. A few questions from me if I may:

    1) Like most online players, I find playing live dull. What do you think casinos and poker clubs could do to encourage more online players in the doors and keep them coming back for more?

    2) Have you heard about any plans for more Late Night Poker? Given it's pretty much the only poker on UK tv, we need it back on the air!

    3) Biggest poker diva you've ever met?

Hello Really admire your skills Simon!! Great to have you here...here are a few questions. Thanks for your tme Simon

You are indeed one of Europe's most gifted poker players. However, I read that you have the ambition to be recognized in the US by a major win in a US competition. Is that such important milestone for you?

Do you prefer tournaments instead of cash games?

It's easy to find you in several big live events and competitions. Do you play online also?

Glad to find you here at this AMA Very curious about your game and skills

Can you give more details on the poker dice episode in secondary school? I mean, after a maths exam you still had the mental energy to play poker dice?

Smoking being banned at all poker games...would that leave you happier than finishing on the money in some event?

You have quite a name for astute reading. Besides you, what other poker player would you consider to be a "perfect" reader?

    Hi Simon,

    1) Which country do you enjoy playing poker in the most? Where is the best atmosphere?

    2) I read that you also own a drainage company, how much has poker enabled you to be successful in life outside poker? (eg has it made starting a business, buying a house etc a bit easier)

    Hello Simon

The lack of a big win in US Soil is still a major drawback for you?

Do you play the several variations of poker like razz poker, 7card stud, omaha and Holdem or do you have a specific one you like to dedicate yourself?

Besides poker, do you have any other sports that you are keen on? Since in the UK football is BIG...do you have a football club?

None, the whole event is being run by Dusk Till Dawn with myself as Tournament Director, the original people are promoting to non UK players only.

2.) Do you expect the €1,000,000 guaranteed 1st place to be covered, or are you expecting an overlay?

80% chance of us having to add money to make up the €1,000,000 first prize

3.) Why did Dusk till Dawn get involved with the ISPT? Who started the conversation?

They contacted us 2 years ago but we didn't think the original concept was feasible so we left it, when they contacted us again and agreed we could license, organise and manage the whole event we agreed as it gives our brand wider exposure.

4.)When will the side game schedule be released?

It has already, go to www.dusktilldawnpoker.com/ISPT

The ISPT has had issues as the original concept / guarantee was unfeasible especially as it relied on acquiring Full Tilt which players were unaware, Wembley was booked 2 years ago and costs over £1,000,000, we have been offered the opportunity to hold the event with no cost for the venue and have always wanted to host something big outside of DTD which is why we are doing it.

    2. What is your favourite memory from your time at DTD?

We have broke so many records and won many awards but i was especially happy when we guaranteed £1,000,000 last year for the £700 buy in UKIPT and beat it getting 1625 players.

    3. What do you think the future of live poker holds? Will NLHE stay the game of choice, will tournaments have to adapt/evolve, etc?

I think NLHE will stay the favoured tournament game, PLO will increase online re cash games and new variations of NL will be needed to keep players interested.

    4. Any exclusive DTD news for us?

We are thinking of doing the UK Championships next with a £1,000,000 for the winner

I only deal with the live poker side of Dusk Till Dawn so sorry, i'm unable to give view on this.

Introduce comps where players have to make a decision within 30 seconds to increase hands per hour and stop players showboating / stalling.

    2) Have you heard about any plans for more Late Night Poker? Given it's pretty much the only poker on UK tv, we need it back on the air!

Unfortunately Presentable Productions that used to make it are no longer in business so it's unlikely we will see it again

I usually only play 1 or 2 events at the WSOP, if i had time i would like to play more and try and win a bracelet.

Do you prefer tournaments instead of cash games?

Yes although i like PLO cash games

It's easy to find you in several big live events and competitions. Do you play online also?

I would if i had more time but rarely play at the moment.

Welcome to the forum Simon and thanks for the answers so far!

How much poker do you play these days? Do you wish you could play more?

Re the ISPT, I'm surprised you think there's a 80% chance of overlay. Is the initial company going to make a loss if there's overlay (or if there isn't)? I can't imagine booking Wembly is cheap...

What's your favourite live tournament and circuit too?

LOL, i was expelled for doing that, the head teacher said i would never achieve anything! Luckily i didn't let that stop me

Smoking being banned at all poker games...would that leave you happier than finishing on the money in some event?

I hate smoking so glad it has been banned, i am only interested in winning.

You have quite a name for astute reading. Besides you, what other poker player would you consider to be a "perfect" reader?

    Devilfish and Phil Helmuth

It used to be Vegas when the WSOP was at Binions but the Aussie Mllions is good too.

    2) I read that you also own a drainage company, how much has poker enabled you to be successful in life outside poker? (eg has it made starting a business, buying a house etc a bit easier)

I have not had to rely on poker for my sole income, my businesses then sponsorship funded my poker, i hardly play now as i don't think i am good enough in the modern game.

No, just a goal yet to be achieved.

I can play most games to varying standards but i prefer PLO Hi or Hi Lo

Besides poker, do you have any other sports that you are keen on? Since in the UK football is BIG...do you have a football club?

Motor Racing, horse racing, snooker ...... not into football but can't wait for Wembley as it will be something special to say " shuffle up and deal " on the pitch

I need to play more just to adapt to the way the game is now played specifically NL which is why i prefer PLO where i think i have an edge, given the time i would like to play more events, hopefully i will play the WSOP this year.

We got involved with just 13 weeks to go, we are covering the overlay on the €1,000,000 guaranteed and to avoid that needs 1852 players at Wembley, this would be amazing if it happens but i think we will have to add some money, the original organisers losses are already huge due to the cost of Wembley, all that matters to me as TD is providing a great experience for those that do play.

Awesome, thank you so much for your time Simon! Hopefully this clears up some of the uncertainty behind the ISPT!

Good luck with the tournament and all of DTDd endeavours in the future
