I completely agree. I thought I hedged my previous comments sufficiently but still think most of the general tenets are fairly broadly applicable. There are massively conflating issues as well, that makes the generalities seem to not apply. I don't think it's too far of a stretch that most parents don't have much of a clue about what effective parenting looks like, or even something some key ideas that they might try to use wiht their kids, and so they obviously fail fairly hard. They are wildly inconsistent, and select poor substitutes to actual strict discipline like threats, hitting, spanking, and yelling. | |
