    Default RIP WitchyWitchy

Today I am bringing sad news to our members. Charisse P. Kotowski (WitchyWitchy) has passed away. I first meet Witchy on the poker tables online and we hit it off. She earned my respect as a player and friend. While we never did meet face to face we often had a connection you do not find often. I will miss her and will be setting up a tribute event for everyone to get together one last time in her honor.

I set up a spot in the forum for everyone to pay their respects. All the forums (Freerolltourny, Texaswheel, Pokerfreerollpassword and Texaswheel) do have a spot.

    WitchyWitchy

If you would like more info here is a link to a story about her passing.

If you have ever played private tourneys at intertops, carbon, felt stars, or many other places you will remember the name. Played in all of the ofc challenges.

This was forwarded by me from an email i had. I played with witchy 3 to 5 times a week for about the last 5 years.

I believe she was a member here also but did not post. I see she logged in here this past month

    RIP

Will miss seeing witchy at the tables. I knew my chips were at risk when I saw her at my table. Been playing across from her for several years. RIP.

The story about her passing is a 404, so how did she die?

Morris Fire Chief Tracey Steffes says the Friday fire that involved the death of one person was likely the result of arson. But local law enforcement officials do not believe there is any danger to local citizens.
“I don’t see any danger to the community,” said Morris police Sgt. Scott Henderson Friday evening.
The victim was identified Friday evening by Grundy County Coroner John Callahan as Charisse P. Kotowski, 61, of 1624 Creek Drive. Callahan said an autopsy was being done Friday night, but he could not release any more details by press deadline.
“It does appear it was intentional,” Steffes said regarding the use of an accelerant that was spread throughout the house.
Just before 2 p.m. Friday, Steffes, Morris Police Chief Brent Dite, fire crews, police and arson investigators were still on scene. The initial fire call came in at 10:50 a.m.
Steffes indicated there was evidence of an accelerant throughout the house at 1624 Creek Drive. There was even some accelerant that had not yet burned. While the substance had not been positively identified, Steffes said it smelled like gasoline.
The Morris Fire Protection and Ambulance District responded within a minute of the call coming in because Steffes and an engine happened to be at U.S. 6 and Creek Drive, he said.
When firefighters arrived, Steffes said, heavy smoke was evident in the garage and could also be seen through the windows in the first floor of the brick residence.
The garage door was forced open and firefighters extinguished the fire. Upon searching for people, the victim was found. No other victims were found after continuous searches.
“The fire department responded to a structure fire and through their efforts fighting the fire came across one victim in the residence,” Dite said late Friday morning.
By 2 p.m., arson investigators from MABAS 15 and the Illinois Fire Marshal’s Office were on scene, as were Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigators.
“They’re on scene now doing a survey of the scene,” said Sgt. Henderson at the time. “At this point, I’m waiting on the crime scene team to notify us.”
A neighbor who did not want to give his name said he was getting ready to take his dog for a walk when he saw smoke coming out his neighbor’s garage. The smoke was coming out of the top of the garage door, he said.
“I banged on the door, but no one answered so I came back and called the fire department,” he said.
Neighbors surrounded the block watching the emergency officials work. Many of the windows of the multiple-story brick home appeared broken out.
Morris, Coal City and Minooka fire were all on scene, as were Morris police, Grundy County Sheriff’s deputies and a representative of the Grundy County Coroner’s office.

You might slowly start to notice after four years that this community is fairly separate from the FTR freeroll community.

Srsly? Dude, someone died and that is sad. Expecting the members of this community who actually contribute here to know who's freetrolling here is moronic.

On a side note. I find it disturbingly funny that the neighbor knocked on the door and just went home and called the fire dept when no one answered. "Hello??? Is someone unconscious and dying in there? No? Ok."

if it was intentional, suicide is also not out of the question, especially when the police say the community is safe and apparently there's no arsonist running around lighting other houses on fire.

anyway i'm sure there's lots of people who lurk FTR or play freerolls who are unknown and have tragic things happen to them that we don't know about. expecting the whole community to mourn for somebody so obscure is a little unreasonable.

Man I don't know what to make of this thread. On the one hand my sense of humanity says I should be respectful of the dead.

On the other hand, this thread has enlightened me to the fact that there's this whole underground freeroll community that contributes nothing whatsoever to the boards, yet they seem to communicate between each other. Man that's fucking weird. It's like "Hey, fellow freeroll guy, lets be friends, but lets not talk poker on any public board, especially not the ones that continually sponsor the freeroll tournaments that enable us to get together and have fun."

Also I don't understand why people can't deposit like 10 dollars on a poker site and play 1c/2c and be infinitely more fulfilled than playing a 50k player tournament that pays 5 dollars for first place.

Well there's a notion out there that people who gamble with real money are suckers, idiots, whatever.

However I know what you're going to say and I agree, $10 isn't exactly real money

Because with $10 you already have the minimum buy-in to a 25NL table.

My favourite part about the bump of this thread was that he was just looking for something that he could feel self-righteous about after busting that bovada freeroll to someone shoving AIPF repeatedly.

As someone who plays the odd freeroll and so a "freetroller" apparently despised by this "community", I thought I would waste five minutes of my life to post. It's idiots like me, who were duped into signing up for poker via this site, that fund this platform for scumbags to make jokes about the untimely death of a woman who died in tragic circumstances. So I've decided to play at another poker site, where I won't be associated with FTR or contribute anything towards it's existence. I have also emailed my current site to explain why I won't be playing there any more. I doubt it will remove FTR as an affiliate, but I can live in hope.

Please go ahead and ridicule me. I would also really appreciate the honor of being banned.

I also find the attitude of many people in this thread highly disrespectful. I have no idea why many of you think not knowing someone is an excuse to be so completely obnoxious towards them, and to the memory of their friend who has passed on.

More generally, there are many on this forum whose behavior towards those not in the 'clique' is so obnoxious and blatantly trollish that it is reminiscent of junior high children taunting a new arrival in the class, only less mature. On several occasions I have seen someone innocently posting a friendly hello on this forum only to be immediately trolled away. At the very least you should have a disclaimer to say that strangers aren't welcome here.

I also won't be reading or posting here any more and I would also appreciate the honor of being banned.

Yeah it's just makes me think about the fact that there's an army of internet people who's sole purpose in life is to be outraged and butt-hurt at other people on the internet.

A guy who nobody here knows starts a thread about someone who even less of us know, in an act of grotesque tragedy porn. Why is the manner and even fact of this woman's death relevant to anyone other than her friends and family and MAYBE the local people in her community? This is about as relevant to us as when the news talks about some random young white woman who was murdered in Oshkosh, Wisconsin or whatever and I'm supposed to care about it in Marietta, Georgia. I don't care, I don't give a fuck, and I feel the same about this. I feel about the same modicum of pity and condolence for this woman and her surviving folks as I do for the scads of other people who die untimely deaths on a daily basis throughout the world.

Obviously I'm not alone in that because 80% of the responses to the thread weren't serious, nor should they be.

So then, an envoy from the aforementioned butt-hurt army shows up and just pounds the outrage button on his keyboard a few times before hitting enter. The catharsis of fake outrage must feel pretty good, because another came out of the woodwork after that. It's ridiculous, and ridicule was the appropriate response to it.

Please show me one single friendly hello where the OP was a/ english literate and b/ not just posting for the freerolls and they got 'trolled away'. Just one. Go on.

Incidentally your general grasp of english and forum posting in general more than qualifies you to join the 'clique' as you call it. If you want to learn then stick around but don't expect a load of sympathy about someone we've never met from someone we've never met when they're making passive aggressive comments about something we never said.

You obviously have strong feelings and I don't want to fall out about it with you so I'll just put my side over and leave it there. This is my opinion as a poster and a person, not as anything else.

There is obviously a community of players who play freerolls and become friendly in doing so. This guy was one of those players who considered himself her friend, enough to bother setting up threads on forums to say RIP and inform people. If you don't care who she was, it wasn't aimed at you, and you can easily ignore it.
Several members came in and said they had played with her a lot and RIP, so there are people who care. Just because you don't care, and most regs don't care, that doesn't mean you can say it's not relevant to "us". Even if it isn't relevant to you, insulting someone who has just lost someone he considered a friend seems to go beyond the line of banter/fair play and into something insulting and deeply personal.

A few years ago, I chatted often via PM with a guy from Cali who I met on another forum. He was a very well respected member who died on cancer. While he was alive, however, he did have a big impact on my life as a whole and on my development as a person for a variety of reasons. I think this was shown by the fact his memory thread on that forum has over 1,000 posts and thinking about it still makes me sad. If I posted on this forum because I thought a few people may know and anyone made jokes insulting him, I would be appalled. It makes FTR look awful.

Reading through the thread only one comment of 5 was anything to do with people not caring. There doesn't appear to be any reason to descend into cheap puns about the way someone died, when it is obvious there are people who knew her in the thread. Saying "you brought it upon yourself" is just an excuse to say what you want. EDIT: One last thing, just because one guy said "you should care" doesn't suddenly make a whole topic available for ridicule IMO, especially when no one else said anything along those lines. He doesn't exactly speak for every one of "them", the same one no one speaks as a single person for "us".

"especially not the ones that continually sponsor the freeroll tournaments that enable us to get together and have fun" - there are plenty of freeroll tournaments you have to sign up to join, and signups help the forum out with money.

Anyway, this isn't a personal attack on you Renton or anyone else in the thread. I just think Poopadoop and Iqof2 have valid points. Again, like I said, this is just my opinion as a poster, nothing more/less.

    No.

Freetrollers saying we're trolls is not the same as actually being trolls. I see two responses in this thread that could arguably be considered trolling (intentionally inciting a rise out of the op), but these occurred only after the OP insulted the community for a lack of posting.

No, you dont have to respond like that...but its a two way street.

This thread has ballooned into a discussion about the treatment of freetrollers in general instead of the treatment of them in this specific thread, and, quite honestly, the trolling of freetrollers has been extremely low as of late. This guy asked to be ridiculed by insulting the forum, and instead he got a realistic, but angry, response from supa, and a standard internet comment from luco. This is not the response of a trolling community intent on the destruction of the freetroller menace. Its more like a colossal amount of apathy, which isnt unexpected. Theres some bs statistic that someone dies every second or something, but its true enough. People cant be expected to care about every single tragedy in life, and its even less likely people would care when NONE OF THE FREETROLLERS have even given us any information about this dead guy. Hes a girl, that plays freetrolls a lot. Ok...? I expect there to be a nonzero percent deathrate for these people. But who was she? Does the OP even know? If he doesnt, why should I?

See, now, you're not a freetroller. You're a contributing member of the site, just not a posting one. You have a valid opinion.

The people who are despised are those who never contribute anything beyond complaints that their free money opportunities aren't provided to them quickly enough. Also, bigred.

This thread's got me thinking quite a bit so here's my thoughts on freetrolling.

There are people who exist in this community who are here for other reasons than getting a free ticket into a tournament. We mainly use this forum to gain knowledge of and get better at poker. Some of us enjoy the social aspect and discuss other non poker topics. We consider ourselves contributing members and dwell on the surface of the forum where we are known to the general public.

Then there are those of you who have found no desire to use this service as intended and rarely make your presence known to the surface dwelling members. You live under the metaphorical bridges of the forum and choose not to involve yourselves in the general public. Your main agenda is to gain access to freerolls offered by the forum, which isn't a bad thing, because the forum makes money by way of you signing up through them. This makes you a contributing members as well (this point should be duly noted by the surface dwellers). Still, you have to understand that your contributions are implied rather than expressed to us and we may not always realize why you exist in our little ecosystem and instead see you're sole reason for being here as parasitic.
