    Default Real racing thread

F1 starts this week. Motogp starts next month. I think WSBK already started but I missed it and didn't tivo it (kicks self). Anyway, dunno if there are any race fans here but having a thread about it will be cool if there are. This summers gonna be sick.

I think there's a nascar thread somewhere so keep that crap in there please.

I objectively think f1 is fucking awesome, but for some reason I'm just not compelled to watch it. MotoGP is the tits, but even so, I'm just too lazy to follow it.

I'd like to find an internet stream of the AMA races at Daytona - LIVE right now! It's supposed to be on Speed 2.

Went to 12 Hrs. at Sebring this weekend; great day for racing. There were 3 458 Italias and 3 Audi R8's running with the LeMans prototypes and the two BMW M3's took 1st and 5th in their class, which is cool because the Porsche GT3s usually dominate the GT classes.

Am I the only one that really wants Schumi to do well? Heck, am I the only person in US that watches F-1?

I was impressed with Maldonado, and Kimi could have done some real damage with a decent car.
Massa is getting worse every race, so Hamilton to Ferrari 2013?

I can't imagine there are many people that don't want Schumi to do well. If his car doesn't get banned then I think we'll actually see some podiums out of him this year.

Maldonado was impressive but was last year too imo. He pushed Williams into Q3 a few times last year which I think says a lot. He just needs a better ride.

We're gonna see Kimi do great shit with lotus this year. Pretty sure he would've made Q3 if the team didn't fuck up timing on his last lap in Q1.

I hope to fucking hell we don't see Hamilton in a Ferrari anytime soon. Esp with the new rules. Ferrari can't seem to figure out how to deal with the lack of down force. Massa's kinda getting screwed this year because he's already been told he's getting canned if he doesn't produce results this year, and then they gave a shit car. Even Alanso's complaining about the F2012 but obv working his way up to 5th from 12th was solid. Qualifying 12th kind of shows that Ferrari has a lot of work to do. Anyway, I think Hamilton is right where he should and hopefully he stays there.

Jenson Button's my man for this year. To early to really say but with Vettel not being able to keep himself glued to the pavement anymore I think Button's the best hope for crushing redbull. Him or Hamiton I guess, but I think Button's been driving better in the last year or so.

Malaysia this weekend. Can't wait. Stoked the speed channel has a purpose again.

supa, when I get my bike sorted, we should find a bar that put's on the F1 races, and you can explain to me what is happening. Maybe F1 is the sport that I would actually follow.

Qualifying in Malaysia was amazing. I won't give away the results but the top 10 Q2 qualifiers were all within a tenth of a second.

@jjbish or anybody else that cares. Turns out that team Lotus isn't what we think it is. The 'Lotus Group' became the primary sponsor of Renault last year but didn't officially change the name until this year. Team Renault took the paint scheme from the previous Lotus team which is now Caterham. So what I'm saying is Kimi actually got a pretty good car and is pretty fucking fast in it.

Fucking rain delay set back the race an hour or so. Fucking DVR only scheduled original race length. Result- miss half the race. :/

I almost never would go through the trouble of signing up to watch some linked video, but I'm glad I did.

I actually verbalized and said, "WOAH!" when that one guy got airborne. That was an awesome clip, with a perfect song set to it.

lol, forgot about registering. I'm not even registered but the wiff is so I used her password. Glad you did though. I figured if you're gonna get interested at all that clip would do it.

Malaysia showed that we may have a very competitive season. I wish every race was a rain race

2 more bad races and Massa will be out (bold prediction?). But I'm not sure what the contract situation is for Maldonado. Would Sauber let him go?

I was watching the replay and had to feed the dog, My wife happened to come down stairs and turned the channel and said I wasn't even in the room.etc etc etc. FML, lol wifeaments.

Schumi and Kimi 1,2 just one time please

    Dozer wins.

I pretend to be interested in F1, but then I sit down and watch it and find myself bored very quickly until Lewis rams into Massa attempting to pass him with his eyes shut, then it's great again.

Jenson the man this year, Alonso is a dick, Kimi is awesome, Lewis is a bit of a twat but meh he's British so I guess I'll forgive him. F1 summed up in a sentence.

IMO, there should be a cliff 50m after the finish line. The trick is to cross the finish line quickly enough to win but to try not to die.

    I'd watch that.

I'll say 5 podium finishes for Kimi this season. He also got the fastest lap of the race, again. I think that was his 36th overall, 3rd all-time after Schumacher and Prost. :/

Yeah, thought about going down this year but time and money are both too tight. Think about trippin up to laguna seca for motogp in july tho. Hopefully I'll be back on 2 wheels by then and a few of us are gonna ride up for the weekend.

Yeah I noticed that little fact, which made me think "wow", then I noticed that they were out of F1 between 1957 and 2009. Suddenly it's not so wow.

Can't believe the race next weekend is going ahead. I think horrible things will happen, sport just isn't worth the risk imo.

Eastern. And I do not consider a race that starts at 8am on a Sunday as a decent time.
So usually Canada and Brazilian GPs are only the ones I consider decent times.

F1 is a global sport. I don't get what your asking for bish. Would you like every race to start in the middle of the night so you can watch it live EST?

Speed usually replays it sunday around noon here. But seriously, Y u no tivo?

More amazing (to me) is the defiance of physics when turn entrance speeds are of the wtf level and all I can think is 'dude, you can't do that' but then they do it.

Maybe they should allow this in the race, would certainly be exciting.

I remember this one well too, I was in shock when this happened, this guy was my favourite driver after Damon Hill at the time, thought he had no chance but somehow he walked away without a scratch. Great crash, one could always rely on Ukyo when it came to this aspect of F1.

Great fucking race. Love that Kimi's back and running strong in the Lotus. He was so not stoked with 2nd place lol. Grosjean on the other hand super stoked with 3rd.

No, that is the official Kimi-Happi-Face (TM)

When he's un-stoked, he has a choc-ice in his hand

    Grosjean's start was unbelievable.

but WTF are the Macca pit crew doing? 4 FUBAR stops in 4 races?

What a points race we are coming to. Wide open and can go down to wire. I like that.
I really think another race series could increase competitiveness if they changed the tire rules like F1 has.

BTW, was just whining about start times. I am/was being selfish. Typical 8am Sunday at my house. Wife watching main TV, son watching 2nd TV and 3rd TV is in daughters room and she's asleep.

I'll have to congratulate you either for watching the race from the projector screen in your home theater, or for your wife allowing you to use internet in your cage in the basement.

Fortunately my wife is just as big a fan as I am, therefore no dispute.

talking of balls, what are peoples' views on the Rosberg v Hamilton/Rosberg v Alonso moves?

    a) Just good racing or
    b) Setting a dangerous precedent?

Anxious and waiting for wife to get home with food so we can watch round 2 of MotoGP in Jerez. Gonna burn some dead animal on the BBQ as a sacrifice for Rossi and a memorial to Supersic.

I wish Vale' could get the Duc working for him. we're missing some great racing without him running up front.

wow, that was amazing. Makes me want to stop traveling, go home, and get back into vintage motorcycle racing. I only dipped my toes in before I left, haven't even been in an actual race yet, but doing a track day was enough to get me hooked...

nah - reckon they had it covered. Maldonado looked after his tyres better; I think he'd have had some to spare if Alonso had caught him.

Nasty mess in the Williams garage after the race ; hope everyone is OK

Didn't have the chance to watch yet. But what a great season this is going to be.

We could have a 8 way champion battle with 5 races to go if it continues.

cb350. It is my first bike... pretty good size to learn on for the street and track. I have become friends with a large group of vintage bike racers/riders, and I really can't wait to settle back in Chicago so I can really dig in. There's a pretty healthy group of guys in the 175 or 200cc class that all run cb160's. The 160's are tiny motors, but it looks like a ton of fun running on the track with a full pack, and you really can work on technique at a comfortable speed.

Here's a pic of my cb350, which is sadly very far away from where I currently am living. I completely rebuilt it, and did almost all the work myself. I did a lot of the welding, but had a friend help out and guide me with that, and I had a shop do the powder coating on the frame and a few small bits. I rebuilt the motor, painted it, formed the seat myself out of sheet from an old computer case, etc etc...

Most recent pic I could find, but that's more or less how it sits today.

p.s. please post awesome compilations and whatnot. Esp motorcycle related stuff. Speaking of motorcycle related cinema.. if anyone wants to see one of the greatest documentaries ever made, check out On Any Sunday by Bruce Brown. It's my favorite sound track of any movie, and the documentary itself just makes you want to do anything and everything possible with a motor and two wheels between your legs.
