Fantastic article on how nationalist culture is confused with rape culture

    http://econlog.econlib.org/archives/2014/12/rape_culture_or.html

Also I suspect the popularity of a bullshit concept like "rape culture" has a negative correlation with the growth in power of proponents of the veracity of said bullshit concept.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a big fan of Adele or anything, but she at least sounds nice. Then again I'm sure I've seen you say Coldplay are better than Radiohead. I shouldn't be surprised. What is this 48fps nonsense? I just learned that they are doing this, and all the opinions you read on it online are way off. It's not too high, it's too low. I have never been more aware of every single frame than I am watching these samples.
    http://www.hfrmovies.com/high-frame-...xample-videos/
You increase shutter speed, you decrease motion blur and you end up with an epilleptic slide show. Wait until you can do 120+ you monkeys. And not everything needs to be in focus. I still remember when Peter Jackson used to do good movies. wtf is this?

Oh, in which case I rescind my accusation that you have the nut low in music taste, and apoligise unreservedly.

As for your Chris Dickhead quote. I'm 100% hetrosexual, so the lust I feel for all members of both bands is exactly zero. Therefore, their relative attractiveness can only be determined by talent alone, which makes Radiohead infinitely more attractive than Coldplay. Chris should stfu and be a bin man or something.

In Chris Dickhead's defense, he said more "attractive" and not more "sexy".

Being attracted to something is much more broadly encompassing of human emotions than merely encompassing broads.

Pretty sure there actually was some bikes and Radiohead controversy a while ago. Can't remember what it was about though. While taste in music is subjective, his view on Radiohead, whatever it was, was just flat out wrong though.

To be less trolly about it: I don't have an opinion about either band, since honestly I never listen to them. But I was blown away at the awfulness of that Radiohead track. It's like people don't believe singing is a thing anymore. All you have to do is strain your voice then hit any ol chord progression without skipping the beat and you're a rockstar!

The real question is who between David Lee Roth and Tom Petty gets the trophy for worst vocalist of all time.

Radiohead is more about the overall sound and mood they create than just a tune and a pretty voice.

Plus lyrics like "I'll be waiting with a gun and a pack of sandwiches".

    Can't help but love that.

I'm not sure how culturally aware Wuf, or even how old he is. But no version of "Creep" can be considered worse than any Coldplay recording ever. I think as a society we were over Radiohead like 10 years ago, but still.

The great thing about that song is that drunk white guys try to sing it at karoake and it's just a TURRIBLE idea.

That song is from Pablo Honey. Their 1992 demo tape. Let's go ahead and judge the entire Zappa catalog based on Freak Out. Radiohead was big when Blue by Eiffel 5 and Baby One More Time topped out the charts, and that's why they're important. They moved things along. You don't have to like them to appreciate that.

I heard this, and it totally made me want to organize a live werewolf/mafia game. On the forum it's great, and probably has elements that would be lost in person, but I believe the opposite is certainly true, and there have to be some crazy dynamics brought about in live play.

I've deleted this statement twice now because it pisses me off to think about but it's becoming the case that you have to assume a girl is lying when they say they were raped because the number of girls willing to lie about this stuff, for whatever reason dwarfs the number who were raped and able to talk about it (this is ignoring the girls actually raped and silent about it).

I listened to an interesting talk on the radio today by Dr Atul Gawande about healthcare for people who are going to die. I think it's a Ted talk also, a Reith lecture or something. An interesting point made was how initially the focus is on gaining long-term quality of life against short term pain and sacrifice of time. Where as once you know you can't be helped its a switch to short term quality of life often with the sacrifice of time. It was quite emotional.

Not the kind of thing I'd typically seek out but was surprisingly interesting.

    http://www.slate.com/articles/double...e_efforts.html

The Sexual Victimization of College Women, a 2000 study commissioned by the U.S. Department of Justice, is the basis for another widely cited statistic, even grimmer than the finding of CSA: that one in four college women will be raped. (An activist organization, One in Four, takes its name from the finding.) The study itself, however, found a completed rape rate among its respondents of 1.7 percent. How does a study that finds less than 2 percent of college women in a given year are raped become a 25 percent likelihood? In addition to the 1.7 percent of victims of completed rape, the survey found that another 1.1 percent experienced attempted rape. As the authors wrote, “[O]ne might conclude that the risk of rape victimization for college women is not high; ‘only’ about 1 in 36 college women (2.8 percent) experience a completed rape or attempted rape in an academic year.”

But the authors go on to make several assumptions that ratchet up the risk. The study was carried out during the spring and asked women to describe any assaults experienced during that academic year. The researchers decided to double the numbers they received from their subjects, in order to extrapolate their findings over an entire calendar year, even as they acknowledged that this was “problematic,” as students rarely attend school for 12 months. That calculation brought the incidence figure to nearly 5 percent. Although college is designed to be a four-year experience, the authors note that it takes students “an average” of five years, so they then multiplied their newly-arrived-at 5 percent of student victims by five years, and thus they conclude: “The percentage of completed or attempted rape victimization among women in higher educational institutions might climb to between one-fifth and one-quarter.”

Sounds like no one wants to acknowledge Death as part of the equation, so we focus entirely on beating it back. Once he sets up shop and we know the jig is up, fuck it let's party.

I skimmed some parts of the article, and skimmed more of the survey it spoke of.

Interestingly, multiplying the number by 5 wasnt that bad of an estimate. If the 2.8% number is accurate and reliable, over five years there'd be a 13% chance of rape/attempted rape. With 5%, a ~23% chance. (1-(norape^years))

I thought the most interesting point about this though, was that the number would be akin to rapes in the Congo. This doesnt seem right, but I dont see obvious fault in the 2.8% value (they ignore repeat victims, for instance, only including the first incident).

It leads me to believe there must be some error in how the questions were asked, or the answers given, or the data obtained from the answers. The study claims to account for variances due to answers from students from 2yr or 4yr universities, and from rural/urban/etc areas, but perhaps it did so incorrectly?

Then again, with how strict our rape laws are, perhaps it is unsurprising that so many people are 'victims' of 'rape'.

But...it was a study from a decade ago...where laws were less harsh and people were less tumblr feminazi 'stop eye raping me'. So idk.

there's apparently a video of my speech, once i find it i'll post it. i had literally just thrown up on myself while talking to people and just exited the bathroom when they all came at me with the cake, and since i was already fucked up i decided it was a good idea to tell no one and just regale them with what just happened

You're really bad at this. Yeah I mean the one in my signature. It's like post #9.

The word was "threw" and it was post 10. also took up a line so it was very easy to miss.

I hope you got on the ground and licked it all up after!

Maybe I'm missing something but if we can't remove the bill this doesn't seem very interesting at all. it's 0.5 for anyone to find the bill so it's. 0.5^100 to find it and since the payout isn't all the money in the world, I'd say you don't want to take the bet.

ok, so there's an answer video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5-I...ature=youtu.be
Which makes no sense to me.

The key to their 'solution' isn't given in the original video either. So even if their answer is correct, you still can't find it with the information given in the first video. Unless someone can confirm to me that their approach actually works, I'm not going to expand any more brain power on this. It sounds like complete bs to me.

What happened in that 30 minutes? Was oskar brainwashed by the illuminati?

'Cause I was pretty much in line with your above post, except unlike some people, when I decide to stop expending brain power on something, god damn it, I mean it.

But if you tell me what you did, then I can spend brain power judging your methods, which is wholly different than divining my own methods.

I can't math this, but I did reduce it to 10 and played around with some paper scraps and the success rate is insane.

I feel like have potentially entered the inner circle of douchebaggery... I now own an iPhone 6+.

I own a 5S whose screen I cracked pretty badly at an In and Out burger place. Nothing says living on the edge like tapping your fingers on jagged glass all day.
